$700m WB loan for Dasu project likely

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will seek an assistance of $700 million from the World Bank for the proposed Dasu hydropower project estimated to produce 1080MW of electricity.

The size of the run-of-river project, located on the Indus River 240km upstream from Tarbela dam, is 4,320MW. Given the financial constraint, however, the project will be developed in a phased manner starting from 1,080MW.

According to official sources, the World Bank has started the process to finance the project, and it has been decided that the International Development Association will finance the proposed unit.

Its been 10 years now, i am fed up of these stories, when will development work start? Musharaf used to say that he will complete them till his term end, Zardari government kept on announcing new projects but no concrete step on ground. Been hearing about Neelam Jhelum for last 10 years but its still not complete, Tarbela's next extension to add 900MW more but just announcement for last 5 years. Same the case with Basha, Musharaf Announced it in 2006 but so far nothing on ground, Bunji Dam MOU signed in 2010 but what after that? no one knows. Why are our government shy of building cheap energy reservoirs that will also ensure food security for Pakistan?? WHY
