650 militants killed in Pakistan in 3 months: army - People's Daily Online 21:11, December 31, 2009

Pakistani security forces have killed some 650 militants in operation in South Waziristan tribal region in three months, the military said Thursday.

Thousands of Pakistan troops launched a major offensive against the militants in South Waziristan in October.

Some 30,000 troops took part in the operation and the army has now taken control most of the areas and the militants have fled.

Military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said that Pakistan Army is carrying out successful operation against terrorists in tribal areas and have killed 650 militants so far in South Waziristan.

"The Army has achieved tremendous success in very short time in the on-going war on terrorism and has taken control of major towns in South Waziristan," General Abbas said, according to state radio. He said operation is continuing as militants have fled into other areas and the Army is chasing them.

He said that over 2,200 militants have been killed in operations in Swat valley in the northwest and Waziristan region. He added that 1,700 soldiers and officers have lost lives in these operations.

To a question, Abbas said that 50 militants have also been arrested in South Waziristan operation.

He said the international community should provide technical assistance to Pakistan Army besides provision of latest equipment to wipe out militants. Pakistan Army has trained manpower which comes up all international standards but it lacks technology and equipment, he said.

He said the Army also achieved a tremendous goal of repatriation of over two million internally displaced persons of Swat and Malakand division within a short span of three months.

Not heard much from people about this interview.

If what is mentioned about ISI double game is true, 650 can be debatable.

good attempt at derailing the thread. What do you want people to say about a pathetic interview that holds no ground and is utterly bullshit. It's understandable that being an Indian any anti-Pak news or anylysis will be hailed and aproved by you with extreme prejudice but just once in a while learn to use your head a little, and also to let things go. what do you do all day? scour the net and save anti-Pak interviews and posts from old threads and post them in random new threads?

anyway, great job by the army.:pakistan:

I have the same habit as Pakistani's :azn:, like they enjoy anything anti Indian (kidding). The thread I posted was not that old, I saw it today, it has reason's to be linked to this thread as both covers operation against Taliban under progress.

Eight years gone and Taliban still has safe havens inside Pakistan, I have reasons to believe some part of that interview.

We go on discussing about Indian involvement in many threads without it having much to do with Taliban, but hate to discuss PA and ISI.
