LAHORE: The capital city district police claimed to have registered 269 cases and made 58 arrests in connection with the ongoing crackdown on elements involved in fanning provocative speeches, distributing hate literature, wall chalking and misusing loudspeakers.
Police, under the National Action Programme, have also seized 90 loudspeakers and amplifiers, hundreds of books and pamphlets and CDs since the launch of the crackdown on Jan 8.
JUSTICE: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rana Ayaz Saleem, head of the investigation wing, on Sunday said provision of justice to the common man was his priority and he had abolished the ‘chit system’ in his office to make it approachable to complainants for speedy justice. He said not only common people but policemen could also reach him whenever they wanted for solution of their problems.
He said all incomplete investigations into murders, dacoities and kidnappings should be completed immediately. He also said the officials delaying presentation of challans of cases would not be spared.
Saleem was addressing the first meeting of investigation in-charges of all police stations at Police Lines, Qilla Gujjar Singh after assuming office. He directed to prepare a yellow book of all proclaimed offenders, drug peddlers, hooligans and notorious criminals at all police divisions so a crackdown could be launched on them. He also said officials failing to provide relief to citizens coming to police stations would not be spared as the basic responsibility of police was to protect life and property of people.
The SSP further directed investigation heads not to arrest any suspect nominated in cases of murder, attempted murder and other crimes until they had solid evidence.
