Islamic World was the leading civilisation of the planet from 7th century to around 18th century...and after the fall of Abbasid Caliphate, Turks took-over and Ottomans became the leaders (just like Western world is leading civilisation for past 300 or so years and United States took over its leadership after the fall for Britain)..
It was only a matter of time before the superpower leading the most dominant civilisation of planet at that time took over such a price city such as Constantinople.
Ottomans would have conquered Constantinople like decades ago if it wasn't for other Islamic powers invading Ottoman rear in order to expand..
Funny fact is: Even today, the largest and most dynamic European city is Istanbul...and it is still controlled by Islamic peoples (Turks...and that too, under AKP
)
On a more serious note: It is such a shame that Turkey is still not a formal member of European Union. The land of Turkey holds more European heritage, ancient cultural heartlands of Europe, and artifacts than many other members of European Union combined.
