50pc work for coal-fired power generation completed: Dr. Samar

Updated at: 1455 PST, Saturday, October 29, 2011
LAHORE: Renowned scientist Dr. Samar Mubarakmand said fifty percent work for coal-fired power generation had been completed while the rest would be completed within two months, Geo News reported.

With the completion of this project, the nation would get inexpensive and sufficient power supply thus resolving the current pestering energy crisis.

Addressing a seminar under the aegis of IEEEP here, coal-fired power generation project’s Chief Dr. Samar Mubarakmand made this disclosure.

Dr. Samar unveiling the technical problem in this project said that water comes up, while taking out the coal and efforts were afoot to overcome this holdup.

He further said that power generation with coal could take the country’s GDP to 8/10 percent. He appealed to all powerful quarters to extend their patronization for this project.

Dr. Samar Mubarakmand said, “Kalabagh Dam’s non-construction is unfortunate, Bhasha Dam is difficult and costlier project and drawing power from it in winter will not be easy.”

AFAIK, the biggest technical problem for the project was unavilablity of water in the area, where they were calling for diverting some of Indus river's water to provide water for thar coal project. I dont know how this is resolved, the news piece also does not give any hint about this issue
