$500 billion GDP (Nominal) - Pakistan Vs Bangladesh

Which country will achieve $500 Billion GDP faster

  • Pakistan

    Votes: 12 41.4%
  • Bangladesh

    Votes: 17 58.6%

  • Total voters
    29
Here's the statistics from me:
  • Pak's total economy = 2*documented = 2*300b = 600b$
  • 200k new cars and 2.4m new motor bikes hit Pak roads per year with CAGR of 20%. In contrast BD has only 350k cars and 1.6m motor bikes in total for 160m folks with the worst roads in Asia!!! Their main mode of transportation is human drawn carriages!!!!!
  • 3m BD folks work as domestic helps in Karachi, whose rich folks have employed 250k armed-to-the-teeth body guards to protect from evil eyes.
  • Pak has 200+ front line fighter jets but BD has only 8.
  • Pak army is fighting both Super Power and 7x larger mortal enemies 24/7; whereas, BD army has suffered from a paralysis from waist down seeing the Burmese who are readying to make a Rohingya out of hem!!!!!
  • Pak's economy is going through a bad cycle but BD's at its best.

It is not fair. All Indian members are voting in favor of Bangladesh.

BD is avoiding oil bills and increasing its foreign reserves by not allowing many cars in the country. Defense purchases also involves using up of precious foreign exchange and unnecessary for them right now. Its a sound policy in my opinion. They have caught up with you because of this policy and soon surpass you.

Economy is the culmination of behavioral activities and outlooks. Having a car etc. are "feel good" factors required to move to more value-added economic activities IMO...

Having a car is indeed good. But for me it is more important to have enough food, access to education and medical facilities.

So you have what you want. We have what we want. You have more cars...but you also have more hungry people. We have less cars....but less hungry people as well....also we have higher literacy rate as well as higher life expectancy. We can live with few less cars. Thank you very much. Considering traffic jams in BD it might actually be a blessing in disguise.

Singapore has actually used this 'less car means more space' policy to its fullest benefit...a normal sedan will cost 10 times more in Singapore than say in any western country or in India.

But then Singapore has provided the citizens with an enviable public transport system with a mix of ultra modern buses, double deckers, Metro trains and other means...the idea was to stop the need of people from buying a personal car.

Not only in transport...but Singapore has also invested the same thought in housing...all government funded affordable apartments, all high rises saving huge acres of land if Bungalows are constructed there instead...and supplemented that with big public spaces, public gardens and wooded areas. Ideal for a country like Singapore with a knowledge based economy and with scarce land and other natural resources.

Bangladesh is pretty handicapped when it comes to its landmass.

Pakistan couldn't become singapore either. So, lets just reserve our judgment, shall we? Bangladesh started to realise money only in this decade. Give it another decade for them to work on their infrastructure. They are atleast making the right moves.

Need a new social contract kind of something, no super rich, ultra rich kind and no super poor and people below the poverty line as well. Difficult but possible...

They(including Pakistan) should rather build 10 very good universities to start with than spending the public money on infra structure, the knowledge based economy needs investment in higher education.

As it is said a country doesn't turn into an advance nation by building Metros and bridges...on the contrary advanced countries makes Metros and high infra after breaking even.

Take the Germany, France and ideally countries like Finland, Norway, Scotland and Denmark, the welfare oriented countries with highest HDI spending on education and health.

Easily Pakistani. banglerdash is an LDC. All their growth atm is due to favourable export policies because of said status and the massive amount of aid they get. If that’s taken away they will go into a deep recession.

I would prefer both countries do it rather sooner as that would mean many people will be out of poverty. However, one also has to accept the ground reality. Though Bangladesh has been doing great very recently.

If one also looks at Bangladesh exports one would see that great chunk of that is from textile and than one also looks at the fact that from 2008-2018 many textile mills from Pakistan shifted to Bangladesh due to lack of power and corruption. however with change in government in Pakistan and energy security many will make a shift back and Pakistani textile industry over the next few years will recover the lost ground. That itself can have massive negative impact on Bangladesh exports and GDP.

Additionally provided there is no regional war which has impact on Pakistan, than Pakistan at least has over $80-$100 billion of freign investment in the pipeline together with CPEC activities picking up pace I would say Pakistan will be in better position and could reach that target sooner.

One also has to look at another fact, that is though Pakistani government might be poor, the population is loaded with money (i do note massive amount also living in poverty) thus there is more money people's hand which would mean there is also greater local investment.
