50 percent work of country's first satellite ‘Bangabandhu-I’ has been completed, State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim said
Tarana Halim said: “So far 83 percent engineering works of the Bangabandhu-I have been completed while progress of antenna manufacture is 56 percent and works of communication and service modules reported 65 percent development.”

The state minister disclosed the development at a press briefing about the satellite and optical fiber network of BTCL at BTCL Gulshan-1 Exchange Office on Friday, reports BSS.

Referring to the completion of satellite system requirement review (SRR) preliminary design review (PDR), she said: “We would start the commercial operation of the satellite in March 2018 after launching it to the space on December 16 next year.”

If the current pace of work is continued, manufacture of the satellite would be completed in November 2017, said the state minister.

She said: “The satellite would be launched using vehicle -SpaceX and Falcon 9 -of United States from the Cape Carnival Launch Pad.”

She said that necessary examination and exercise, especially integration of Falcon-9 for launching “Bangabandhu-I” would be conducted before one month of launch at the SpaceX.

The constructing firm ‘Thales Alenia Space of France’ would be handed over the satellite to the Cape Carnival after testing and review, the minister informed.

The Primary ground station of the satellite is constructing in BTCL Staff College compound in Gazipur while the secondary one is at Betbunia in Rangamati.

Bangabandhu-1 satellite to be commercially launched next year

The Bangabandhu-1 satellite will be commercially launched by June next year, State Minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim said today.

“More than 85 percent work of the satellite has been completed. It will be sent into orbit in December this year or January next year if the weather remains in favour,” Minister Tarana told a press conference at her ministry office today.

The minister informed the reporters after her recent visit to France in this regard.

Thales Alenia Space, a French aerospace manufacturer, is manufacturing the satellite with a cost of Tk 2,967 crore.

The satellite, meant for communication and broadcast services, is so far the most sophisticated technological project undertaken by Bangladesh.

Bangladesh bought the orbital slot from Intersputnik, a Russian satellite company, for $28 million.
