ISLAMABAD: India cannot forget Pakistan Navy operation ‘Dwarka’ carried out during 1965 Indo-Pakistan war while Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on September 6 and 7 during the war had gunned downed 50 Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft in the air-battle and caused damage to eight others.

According to a documentary aired at a news channel, this was the first use of Pakistan Navy in any Indo-Pakistan Wars. It was one of the significant naval events of Indo-Pakistan war and Pakistan celebrates September 8 as ‘Victory Day’ for Pakistan Navy.

A fleet of seven ships comprising PNS Babur, PNS Khaibar, PNS Badr, PNS Jahangir, PNS Alamgir, PNS Shah Jahan and PNS Tipu Sultan set sail for ‘Dwarka’ and bombarded the Indian town. The report added that the first nine shells hit directly on the Indian Naval Radar station destroying most of the infrastructure, killing 13 sailors and two officers. The Naval Radar Station was being used by the Indian Air Force (IAF) to attack Pakistan territory but, after the effective attack by the Pakistan Navy, IAF had to suspend its operation.

Col. (r) Afzal Hussan talking to the channel said that on September 7, Indian armed forces tried to enter into Sialkot, but due to timely and strong reply given by the Pakistan Armed Forces, the enemy had to flee and left around nine new tanks and its weapons in the battlefield.

To a question, he said that spirit of Pakistan army and people was really commendable during the 1965 war. Caption (r) Abdur Rehan told that the spirit of 1965 war was still alive in the nation and a befitting response would be given to India if war was imposed on Pakistan.

i always wondered though, why you guys didnt attack EP in 1965? we couldnt have defended it that time also

Allow me to offer an opinion.

Didnt make much sense back then , being an IB we would have had to withdraw post ceasefire.

Next time round with the creation of BD by willing locals we did what we wanted.

what i was trying to say was that, you attacked Lahore, to take the PA's attention off from Kashmir, but if you had attacked EP instead, wouldnt it have given you more land?
the historical perspective may have been different, maybe we wouldnt be celebrating defense day then?
because i think even in 1965, an all out attack by the IA should have resulted in an eventual surrender of the PA in EP, no?

No

Attacking EP would not have relieved the pressure of Gibraltar.

Troops would have to be diverted both by India & Pak to attack / defend EP,

Maybe Bc India wasnt interested in capturing Pakistani land and the bitterness generally grew with time....

The attack on Lahore was to force Pak for a ceasefire and negotiate all back to.previous positions

i doubt we could have moved our troops, in war time specially, this is what happened in 1971

In 1947 India was split in 3.... still loading more to come stay tune and stfu

You do realize your leadership agreed to stick together by accepting the Cabinet Mission Plan and it was India which rejected it and preferred partition.

dude, EP was much smaller than us, it was not half,
i always wondered though, why you guys didnt attack EP in 1965? we couldnt have defended it that time also
The idea was to divert troops from Kashmir to Punjab - you could not have shifted them from Kashmir to Bengal in a jiffy either way.

.
Is that why after fifty years you suddenly decided to celebrate. :cheesy:
