Looks menacing

Hi,

It may look menacing---but it is not in the real sense---.

I just made sense of this news that I recently heard. Most of the fertilizer comes from china and russia---.

And one more thing---most important---DEF fluid comes from china---ie 70% of the US consumption.

You would ask what is DEF fluid---it is

"
Diesel Exhaust Fluid

If you're new to having a diesel truck or heavy equipment, there's a critical additive you need to know about. It's called Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). This additive is also called aqueous urea solution 32% or AUS 32. It's made from 32.5% urea and 67.5% de-ionized water"---.
This fluid is added to all california emission qualifying diesel vehicles and pretty much all heavy duty and medium duty and smaller diesel trucks have to have DEF added to meet clean emissions.

And once the DEF fluid tanks is empty---a warning light comes on and then the engine shuts off.

Only 30 % of DEF fluid is produced in the US by the Flying J trucking fuel stations---the rest comes from china.

DEF---or a lack of DEF fluid is the biggest reason of emission problems in the heavy equipment---. The electronics are designed that the trucks would shut down once the DEF has been consumed.

First the warning light would come on---then the truck would start to lose power---it will start to DE-RATE---end up crawling on the freeway at 5 mph and then ultimately shut off and cost the owner 1000's of dollars in repair.

Can you imagine for east to west coast---line of freightliners, Kenworths, Peterbilts, Volvo, Macks, Internationals---parked on the side of the hwy's---shut down and nowhere to go---because there is no def fluid and the computer has shit down the engine.

So---basically---china can shut down US transportation network . Not a pretty picture

@SQ8 @Irfan Baloch @Hakikat ve Hikmet @niaz sorry I missed to tag many

It is small things that make the difference---. Who would have thought that fertilzer and DEF could create some hurdles.

@WebMaster

@niaz correct me on this information.

Yup - that DEF thing is a big deal. Cant remember the number of times I have had to wipe DEF off myself when installing instrumentation on storage for them but that also tends to crystallize in the heat.

And the emissions standards are only getting stricter - CARB(California Air Resource Board)'s directives will soon be adopted by most if not all blue states so the demand for that stuff will only grow.

Forget about the repair alone - just the idea of a truck sitting around - the cost of drivers - a trailer sitting out of circulation and the domino impact on the supply chain. It will only make things much much WORSE!

We replaced DEF (We called AdBlue) in Australia. With a new thing that locally made called "AUSBlue"
