A total of 42 members of the ethnic Mroo Nationalist Party (MNP) surrendered to the Bangladesh Army in Alikadm upazila of Bandarban district on Wednesday.
Lt Col Shahid Mustafa, Commanding Officer of Alikadam army zone, said, A total of 42 MNP members, including Busue Mroo, Cing Y Mroo, Sakraw Mroo and Reng Hing Mroo, surrendered to the army officials at the Puamuhuri army camp.
But they did not deposit any arms, he added.
Sources said the MNP members, hailing from Alikadam and Thanchi upazilas of the district,
had long been involved in criminal activities like extortion and abduction.
Army officials quoted the MNP members as saying that they had surrendered with a view to coming back to normal life.
Lt Col Mustafa said the army personnel would provide the much-needed assistance to them if they returned to normal life
