To date, 40 MPs and members of the ruling PTI have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, while two have died, showed a tally compiled by Geo.tv.

Majority of those infected, since the outbreak of the virus in February, are members of the provincial assemblies (MPAs) associated with the PTI. While 15 members of the national assembly (MNAs) have been infected by the virus.

Some prominent names include Asad Qaiser, Speaker of the National Assembly, Shehryar Khan Afridi, Minister of State for Narcotics Control, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Imran Ismail, Governor Sindh.

One senator, belonging to the party, has also fallen ill.

The most recent government official to announce contracting the deadly virus is Dr Zafar Mirza, the minister of state for health, and the most senior health official in Pakistan overlooking the coronavirus response.

Two lawmakers belonging to the PTI have also died due to the disease, namely Shaheen Raza and Jamshed Uddin Kakakhel. Both were members of the provincial assemblies.

Meanwhile, the infected members of the political party also include Nadeem Afzal Chan and Abrar ul Haq.

Pakistan has a total of 233,646 cases of the virus and has confirmed 4,818 deaths, as of July 7.

Pakistan is moving towards Herd Immunity which is good in a long run
This dumb "herd immunity" idea first came from UK and they changed their mind later on. Its easy to say "herd immunity" but a lot more cases and death (I hope not) will have to happen for a country before they can even claim to have it. Spain is one of the worst places to have been hit with this virus and only 5% of their population are shown to have the antibody.

""Despite the high impact of Covid-19 in Spain, prevalence estimates remain low and are clearly insufficient to provide herd immunity," the study's authors said in the report."

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un

It’s the sheer prevalence of covid among people I know back home and among celebrities and politicians that makes me think the true number of cases in Pakistan is much higher.

I have quite a few of relatives and neighbours who report cold like symptoms and temperature, for a long period of time, but only a few immediate family get tested, most of them are not even considering it corona. Here I’m talking about middle/upper middle class educated urbanites. Just think what the situation is elsewhere.

To be honest, one can only blame government so much. At the start of this pandemic I was 90% sure it would get out of hand in Pakistan, basic understanding of disease is lacking, lockdown can’t be sustained, pseudoscience is rife amongst the public, hygiene is lacking let alone SOPs, people lack basic manners; here where I am people consider it rude and unbecoming to cough in public without covering one’s mouth. Back home I see people coughing with face hung forward and cough mouth wide open as if we could all benefit from the most efficient expulsion of their germs.

I could be wrong, I haven’t been back to Pakistan since lockdown, I was there a few weeks before. Maybe all this has changed with public awareness, at least I hope it has.

According to Dr Atta-Ur-Rahman (who is chairman of PMIK's task force in science and technology and have been a leading voice among professionals in Pakistan for Covid), he believes that the number of covid cases and deaths are under reported. This was from an interview I think a few weeks ago (in June I believe ). Haven't heard his views after that so I am not sure, and I would rather trust a professional like him than any politician tbh.

I don't understand how come Technological Giants such as America , China , Russia and EU still struggling to create a vaccine for the Virus ?

Science stuff, need time I guess because of complexity. Plus, the need to test it first on people , see side effects etc before anything gets approved. It would take some time. Though what Dr. Fauci said recently doesn't look too good

"Protection from any potential coronavirus vaccine might be short-lived and could require a booster to prolong protection, White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said Monday."

The smart lockdown seems to have work. According to the new smart sampling data, there is a major decline corona cases in Lahore.
