Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said construction work on the countrys third sea-port at Rabnabad channel in Kalapara upazila would start during the tenure of the present government.
The minister made the remarks while visiting the proposed site of the sea-port on Friday.
Later addressing a public meeting, organised by local Awami League, at Charipara in Kalapara, the minister said economic activities will increase in the countrys southern region following opening of the sea-port.
State Minister for Water Resources M Mahbubur Rahman, acting shipping secretary Syed Manjurul Islam, among others, also addressed on the occasion.
