Islamabad: Pakistani police have detained 39 people in connection with the unsuccessful attempt on President Pervez Musharraf's life and transferred them to an undisclosed location, according to sources.

The detention came after investigators, probing the attack on Musharraf's aircraft as it took off from a military airbase in Rawalpindi on July 6, traced the suspected attackers' telephone calls to these 39 people, the 'Daily Times' reported today.

Most of the detainees belonged to the North West Frontier Province, they said.

It may be recalled that Musharraf escaped the assassination attempt when around 36 rounds were fired at his aircraft from a submachine gun in Rawalpindi.

Police had earlier arrested the owner of the house from where the shots were fired at the President's aircraft and recovered an anti-aircraft gun and a machinegun, "similiar to those used by the Taliban in Afghanistan", from the roof.
