UAE leaders issue statement on the occasion of 38th Armed Forces unification day

Ever since its establishment, the UAE Armed Forces has been keen on working with all other national bodies to ensure the sustainability of comprehensive development in the country, said President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In a statement on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the UAE Armed Forces issued yesterday (Monday) Shaikh Khalifa said: “Today, we fondly and proudly remember all the achievements made on May 6, 1976, during which the late founding fathers, members of the Federal Supreme Council, issued the decision to unify the UAE Armed Forces under one flag and leadership, to protect the country and its achievements.”

Shaikh Khalifa said that the Armed Forces would defend the nation out of love, and safeguard it. The late founding fathers’ decision was based on their strong belief that full integration is required for this key national body, which bears the burden of protecting the federal state and bolstering its security and welfare of its citizens.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said in a statement: “Our celebration of the Unification Day of the UAE Armed Forces is not a commemoration of a historical decision and turning point in the march of our nation, but is a celebration of our present and national achievements in all walks of life,”

The march of the UAE Armed Forces stands as a live example of the march of nation building, and also bears testimony to the wisdom and achievements by the generation of founding leaders and the generation of empowerment, he added.

General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also issued a statement to the Nation Shield magazine on the occasion of the Armed Forces unification day.

“This year we celebrate the anniversary of the Armed Forces unification day in light of new national achievements in the field of arming, training and military technologies, and the new federal law for military service approved by the Federal National Council, which will provide our Armed Forces with more Emirati cadres that will contribute to enhancing the youth’s loyalty to the nation. It will also cultivate the abilities and skills of youths who will experience military service, which produces men who are capable of bearing hardships, facing challenges, and exerting maximum efforts in their field of work.

“The law provides key support for the UAE Armed Forces, and gives us a reserve of national cadres who are trained and ready to join the forces at any time. The law will also benefit the development process in the UAE, because the skills and values obtained by youths during their military service will help them in their jobs. It also provides the nation with capable cadres who can contribute to the nation’s aspirations and its journey towards the future.”

Lt Gen Hamad Mohammad Thani Al Rumaithi, Chief of staff of the UAE Armed Forces, said the historical decision to unify the Armed Forces on May 6, 1976 marked the beginning of a new era for the UAE Armed Forces.

“As we today celebrate the unification of the Armed Forces, we feel proudly of our armed forces as Defence forces that are formed to protect the nation and safeguard its borders and territories, yet not to threaten other countries, he said.

Lt Gen Al Rumaithi added that the UAE armed forces always seek to promote world peace and security, and hence they have contributed effectively to play their role at local, regional and international levels.
