$36 Billion of Military Hardware Could Be Destroyed in Afghan Pullout

Do not let Pakistan get its hands on the militar y hardware left in Afghanistan. U S made that mistake when, some of this hardware fell in **** hands during Soviet occupation. Some hardware from Vietnam was transfer e d by President Nixon and Ford to Pakistan free. In 1973-75.

You mad bro?? You can ***** all you want but some not all of that equipment will go to Pakistan. I am sure backstage talks are already taking place.

willn't it make sense to transfer these weapons to ANA rather than to destroy them??Make ANA stronger, thats what it'll do.it'll be symbolic that USA come to rescue Afghanistan from Taliban's clutches and leaving them making strong.that will make difference of their departure against soviet's(which made Afganistan weak).plus, with these surplus weapons,ANA will be armed to the teeth.

They will be given the weapons they can operate but any advanced platforms will probably be withheld.

.
So, since the cost of transferring it would be $5.7 billion, they are ready to incur a loss of $36 billions???

I think the thread starter was smoking something while posting. Not his fault.:P

that's correct -- the arms which were used to blast soviet gunships which were bombing afghan villages

you can change some things but you cant change geography can you?

by the way im sure most of the sensitive equipments would be relayed to Kuwait or Manama -- so you sleepless bhartis shouldnt get your butt-tight undies too soaked and stenchy just yet

. .
well the timing wouldnt be better since Uzbekistan (Kyrgyzstan too) have often found themselves to be "swing states" between the yanks and the furry hat ruskies

.
Sensitive Equipement will be transported to UAE via air and then shiped to US! they can sell some to CARs or gift them to ANA.

Just give that all to the Afgan military ?

i was at an interesting seminar at the NDU somewhat recently; a young NCO (American) posed a comment disguised as a question to the speaker on this very subject

i got the impression that at least a good number of servicemen (not sure about top brass) distrust the ANA after a spate of those "green on blues"....understandably the mood wasn't the most 'receptive'

it's more expensive to bring all that shyt back but then again its also a quagmire to leave the shyt there and hope it doesnt end up in the hands of the whackos; in order to help promote morale of the less than modestly equipped/disciplined ANA (which still has a lot to prove to itself, to Afghanistan and to NATO) they probably will have to maintain the trainers and hence maintain and later distribute equipments -- my guess things like towed howitzers like the M triple 7s which have been deployed for quite some time or in other cases simply destroy anything too sensitive and use the money that wouldve been used to bring the shyt back to instead subsidize small arms/ammo.

In worst case scenerio they could disable it with light charge of explosives and scrap it by tonnage!!

The Obama White House is cutting $65 billion in the sequester, but it could easily leave or torch 750,000 pieces of major military hardware — worth $36 billion — in Afghanistan after U.S. troops pull out by the end of next year.

Here are the options, according to Face the Facts USA of the George Washington University: Leave the equipment — or destroy it — in Afghanistan; move it to other U.S. military outposts; or transfer it to another U.S. agency or to another country.

The estimated cost for the latter two options: $5.7 billion.

The equipment includes trucks, aircraft, and armored vehicles — most of which are controlled by the Army.

Because the Afghanistan terrain is mountainous and landlocked, transport would be difficult. But leaving it behind intact could put the equipment in the wrong hands.

So, is it best to torch $36 billion in U.S. military assets?

Since there will be a civil war anyway, might as well give it equally to each side.

Intentionally USA wouldn't leave anything valuable back but even when you don't, you leave a lot. Thinking about crashed stealth helicopter which destroyed on OBL raid is one example of such incidents.

Now there is a hidden meaning behind this effort. USA knows ANA is nothing and even if they hand over this hardware to ANA, they will eventually end up going into the hands of Taliban. ANA is so non-existing in the power equation in Afghanistan.

They can give the armoured vehicle to Afganistan army. It will help them ease troop movements.
