Geng Shuang said that friendly people in many countries, overseas Chinese firms and Chinese community including students had also provided a lot of support in various ways.

He said that China mainly relied on its own strength to tackle the epidemic, and added, “We are confident and capable of doing this. In the meantime, we welcome and thank the international community, the developing countries in particular, for their sincere support and friendly assistance.”

According to latest data release by China’s National Health Commission here on Friday, the confirmed novel coronavirus cases on the Chinese mainland have so far reached over 6,932 in China and 505 abroad while a total of 1,381 people have died of the deadly disease. Over 6,723 patients have recovered from the deadly disease.

The prevailing pneumonia outbreak was first reported in the city of Wuhan, central China’s Hubei Province in December. Experts have attributed the outbreak to a novel coronavirus that has since spread across China and abroad.

BEIJING – A Pakistani scientist, Dr Munawar Iqbal engaged in research at high-energy institutes in China had decided to stand strong with his Chinese friends and offered to work with the Chinese authorities to fight coronavirus epidemic in Hubei Province.

He decided to stay in China with his family and also contributed a handsome amount to the Red Cross Society of Hubei province.

His 9-year old daughter, Zoha Munawar conveyed her blessings to the people in the affected areas through a video and expressed her determination to work with the Chinese to overcome the epidemic.

At present, this video has been broadcast through CCTV's new media platform-Central Video App.

Coronavirus outbreak in China

China on Thursday removed the top political leadership in Hubei, the province at the centre of the escalating coronavirus outbreak, shortly after health officials there reported 242 people died from the virus on Wednesday - more than twice the number of the previous day and the highest daily toll since the outbreak began. This has raised the death toll to 1,367.

The province and its capital Wuhan where the infection now known as COVID-19 is thought to have originated in late December also reported more than 14,800 new cases of the infection after adopting new clinical methods to diagnose the virus.

The number of infected across China rose to 59,805.

Earlier this month, Zhang Qin, full-time deputy director of the Hubei branch of the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC), was removed from office for dereliction of duty in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic.

Mr Zhang was also dismissed from the leading party members group of the RCSC Hubei branch committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and given a serious intra-party warning as well as a serious administrative demerit, it said.

An investigation showed that certain officials and cadres with the RCSC Hubei branch failed to take responsibility when receiving and distributing donated funds and relief goods in the effort to contain the spread of the coronavirus epidemic that originated in the provincial capital Wuhan.

They were also found to have violated regulations and be responsible for information disclosure errors, the commission said in a notice.

ISLAMABAD - Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza has confirmed that four Pakistani students that had developed coronavirus disease in China were fully recovered now.

After recovery from the disease, they had been discharged from the hospital in China, Dr Zafar Mirza said in a statement. He added that 98% confirmed coronavirus patients were fully recovered.

He said some people were under observation for the virus across Pakistan. But all of their tests came negative, he added.

He said the government had reviewed the situation in the provinces and closely working with them to provide all assistance.

Dr Zafar Mirza said medical experts’ teams were present at the airports to receive and observe the passengers from China and not a single suspected case was found out yet.

He said that the government had taken all possible measures to protect citizens from coronavirus and its spread in the country. He added there was no coronavirus patient in the country.

He said that the government had adopted special measures at all airports of the country while in early days, all flights from China were suspended.

He added now flights from China started arriving in Pakistan where all preventive measures had been adopted.

He said that instructions had been issued to all major hospitals to make arrangements to receive the possible cases and provide the necessary care.

He said that a daily basis meeting was being held to monitor the situation and revising the facilities and services plan for the suspected patients. He, however, made it clear that so far no coronavirus patient was received at any hospital.

Dr Mirza said that he was personally monitoring the situation and meeting every 48 hours with heads of hospitals, health institutions and all relevant departments to review the situation.

He said the NIH had already issued an advisory and alert on novel coronavirus to all provincial health departments and especially Points of Entries (PoEs) at all airports and ground crossing in the country.

He said the advisory was issued with a purpose to alert and sensitize the health staff all over the country to remain vigilant about any suspected cases coming from affected areas of China and for early detection of suspected cases of novel coronavirus infection.

He said the NIH had activated its Emergency Operations Center to monitor the international dynamics of disease and coordination with Central Health Establishment (CHE), World Health Organizations (WHO) and provincial health departments for national prevention and control.

So Pakistani students are getting infected already? Sorry but wtf is your government doing spending money on charity work before making sure that your own citizens are safe?

They're better off in China than in Pakistan with our unprofessional medical staff and even more uncivilised population. If 1 person gets hospitalised 20 others will come to visit him, well wishers.

We should keep them there but ensure they have money for food, transport and medical treatment if needs be.

Sorry but why and how does it concern you?

They are better off in China then spreading the virus...They are living off the incubation period...I am not sure how or why that should upset you in any way!

Posting a comment means this is upsetting me? It was just my opinion.

Whether it’s Pakistan or some country in Andromeda galaxy doing the same thing, my comment would still be the same.

How long is the incubation period ,I am sure it's more than 14 days now since the Pakistani citizens have been there or are you guys waiting for them to catch the virus and then say ,see I told you so

then you would be as dumb (or crafty/clever if injun) as you sound. pooling resources with China is cheaper than fighting on its own for Pakistan. it is not charity but a decent act to contribute a little something when it is the Chinese who will be spending the most
First of all this is all overhyped. This virus has an extremely low mortality rate and if it is as dangerous as you think it is then since China’s medical infrastructure is overwhelmed, your people have a better chance of being treated properly inside your own country which is why most countries brought their citizens home.

China has every medical service and treatment that Pak has and more. Bringing Pakistani citizens back only increases the chance of the virus spreading more(in Pakistan).

If it's not as dangerous according to u then why r u hurting over what Pak government does or doesn't do? If it is super dangerous then it's all the better that they are treated there rather than bringing them here and putting the rest of the Pakistanis at risk. In both cases it shouldn't concern u.

I understand what you guys are saying, that might be right when the news broke out.but not it's more than 14 days and by now things should have been clear and all the pakistanies who are cleared of the virus should be brought back that's the least the govt could do

Right as I've said before...China is making all efforts to treat anyone who is infected(regardless of nationality) and trying to contain/eliminate the virus from spreading. Any concern of Pakistanis or non Pakistanis(at a human level) would be valid if the Pakistani citizens in China were unable to get treatment...yet that's not the case is it?

So now there are two options...Pakistanis in China get treated there mitigating the risk of spreading the virus to other areas and other populations...
OR
Pak gov brings them back to Pakistan and treats them here with the added risk of the virus spreading in areas and population that were previously unexposed.

The second option carries more risk...and is completely unnecessary. It's really not that hard to bring ppl back...and there isn't a huge number of Pakistanis in China...a couple of planes making a few trips can easily get all the Pakistani back here...but just bcuz it's doable doesn't make it a smart move. It would only get in the way of China's attempts at trying to quarantine(bcuz they legally would have to allow Pakistan to evacuate Pakistani citizens just like other countries pulled out theirs)...instead it's better to make a coordinated effort with China at tackling this threat.

As for those Pakistanis that have either been treated(bcuz they got infected) or were cleared after screening...of course they wouldn't be quarantined and can get back to whatever it is they were doing in China.

@Uguduwa read my posts...and then expand on what u r trying to argue here than ur oneliners about all the concerns u have.
