2016 is beginning on an amazingly happy note with a long weekend right on the first three days of the New Year. Needless to say, we have a whole lot to be joyful about. A long Christmas break followed by a long weekend – 2016 definitely seems like God’s gift to mankind! And with the year beginning on such a peaceful note, why not plan an awesome trip and ring in the New Year in an amazing way? For those who haven’t already planned a trip, the year end doesn’t seem very far off now. There’s exactly a month to go and there’s time to staill plan a trip.

By going away from the mad parties and the city crowd, you can relax and explore all at the same time! Planning the trip can be relatively simple: all you need to do is take off on Thursday evening post work, ring in the New Year in an exotic location, far away from the crazy crowds, explore a new place and spend the next 2 days living your life to the fullest! What can be better than this? Here’s some amazing destinations Indian can visit in the long New Year weekend!


1. Neemrana

What better than to ring in the New Year than on a royal note? This palace town situated in Rajasthan is merely 119 kms from Delhi station junction and hardly takes upto 4 hours by road. Delhi is the closest airport. An absolutely amazing destination for couples – you can surprise your loved one with a lavish suite and all the comforts! Snuggle together in bed and ring in the New Year like kings and queens! Though mainly for those hailing from Northern India, Neemrana can be visited by others too, though the route will be more circuitous.

2. Kurukshetra

For those looking for a bit of tradition, Kurukshetra is an ideal place to ring in the new year. Filled with temples, the place is speial to every Indian as the Indian epic of Mahabharata took place at Kurukshetra. The place has multiple temples to offer along with the battle-field. It’ll definitely be a unique vacation and a completely different trip – one that will take you centuries back right when you’re standing on the threshold of the future.

3. Nongpoh

For the North East Indians, the options to explore are many. Though there are the all time favourite Kaziranga and Shillong, there are some other smaller tourist sites that are not explored to the fullest yet. Nongpoh, on the way to Shillong is a beautiful little town with beautiful rivers and lakes. There are also animal reserves to explore. This trip is for the adventure and nature lovers.

4. Sualkuchi

Another destination in the North East, the sleepy little village of Sualkuchi is also called as the Manchester of the East thanks to it’s silk industries. The place has a lot to offer in terms of tourism right from lakes, valleys, rides in the Brahmaputra river to some amazing shopping. 5. Chandipur

Ring in the New Year with some beautiful waves and a beautiful sunrise. One of the lesser known beaches of Odisha, Chandipur affords you peace along with the pristine beauty of a beach. The ebb tide leaves the beach specially beautiful with silvery-white sand stretched out for miles to see. It is absolutely beautiful to ring in the New Year with your family and friends.

Bakkhali is situated to the south of West Bengal and is yet not much of an explored destination. 7. Nrityagram

As the name suggests, this little hamlet in Southern India is a village of dance. The place is an ideal getaway for those interested in dance and it’s multiple forms. The little village is barely 35kms from Bangalore and was conceptualised by the reknowned Odishi dancer Protima Bedi. It will be perfect to ring in the New Year with your passion – dance!

8. Shravanabelagola

A holy place of the Jains, Shravanabelagola is also a place of historic importance. It hosts the largest monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali. Apart from the statue and the temple surrounding it, there are a lot of other temples too. You can ring in the New Year on a very holy note.
