Many casualties have been reported in past in account of IA that too without going to war. So far seems like, mismanagement, lake of awareness of situation while training or ill tactics that claims many lives.

Yes, the stand off in 2002 was a disaster for the IA in regards to the casualties.....close to 2000.
However losing soldiers during an exercise certainly points to lack of situational awareness.

One died due to snake bite.
One died after falling from vehicle and getting crushed.
One died due to unknown causes..................

RIP for the dead service men....we should refrain to make fun of that incidents.
huge number of soldiers participating in 50+ temprature and we can expect such kind of accidents during live fire and desert envoiroments. Just look at the above mentioned death causes, all accidents.

Around 50,000 troops took part in the exercise in the scorching heat of Rajasthan and these casualties are mostly due to accidents not some Grenade went off by mistake or friendly fire.

798 KIA during stand off which also include Arty duals and border skirmishes at LOC apart from Mine laying etc.

Edit - 50,000 troops in Ex Shoorveer,30,000 troops in Shatrujeet.

India suffered 1,874 casualties without fighting a war
Usually extremely tight-lipped about casualty figures, the defence ministry had to disclose them in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday in response to a question.

"The number of Army personnel killed or wounded in Jammu and Kashmir and the western sector during the mobilisation, Operation Parakram, from December 19, 2001 to October 16, 2002, was 1,874," said Defence Minister George Fernandes.

Sir ji agreed, no offense intended at all but merely quoted the concerns over management by high-ups though did not cheer for the deaths. It was just to highlight the lack of professionalism and awareness of ground that caused many lives during exercises means no one to blame but administration indeed. We fight each other but professional respects are there without any doubt.

No condolences for enemy who was practicing this. I am sure by enemy here Pakistanis understand what it means.

Although we do usualy tend to bide by aman ki asha spirit, however here we are merely discussing what's been reported by the Indian media and i quote from the above link....''NEW DELHI: The life of an Indian Army soldier comes cheap. The US-led coalition forces lost just around 150 personnel during the recent Iraq operations. In sharp contrast, and without going to war, almost 2,000 Indian Army soldiers were killed or wounded during the 10-month forward deployment along the Indo-Pak border last year.''

10% of your total post would be "India suffered 1,874 casualties without fighting a war" whenever you find time and repeating this quite often vindicates the aman ki asha spirit you are talking about
