This should certainly aid the elimination of energy crisis in Pakistan. AEDB with the help of ESMAP has identified wind corridors in Sindh, Punjab and Baluchistan capable of producing 30,000 MW of wind energy. Will need some seriously heavy investment, but worthwhile in the future perhaps? Especially with the wind-based electricity's tariff reducing?

3,500MW Wind Energy to be Generated by 2018 | Today in Pakistan

Clean energy is the future, Pakistan should encourage International investors to invest in wind, solar and thermal energy projects.

On top of which Pakistan is primed for producing energy utilizing renewable resources such as those you mentioned. And honestly, I think Pakistan is pursuing them. 1,000MW solar project, 3,500MW cumulative wind projects. Going good.

Like every other problem we have in Pakistan, strategic thinking is missing here as well. While this news is good yet the core idea of generation of electricity is based on current shortfall which is a problematic approach. We should be focusing on generating extra 5000MW/year other than the requirements/Usage.

I guess it's in our blood to be absolutely negative about everything.. Pakistan is new to wind based energy, and therefore there is no need for over-ambitious projects.. Besides, the plants are expensive to set up so for now, we should focus on meeting energy requirements rather than looking for a surplus, which by the way, if all the energy projects in the pipeline are completed on time, we'll have anyway..

The problem is/was that all energy projects were based on current scenarios without even thinking for a second that the usage will increase in coming years. Our problem is not only the rightful usage but also the energy stealing which we happily accept as line losses. We need to be over ambitious, its now or never. I have worked closely with such people so i first hand know why we need to be ambitious.

Wind energy needs wind and Solar energy needs sun both are not available 24/7. How would you compensate when there is low production and demand remains constant ?

Nobody is only relying on Solar and Wind power, Solar energy can help when electricity load is at peak and so is solar power available. We need coal fired plants and definitely more hydel power plants.

The fact of the matter is that the aforementioned energy project is set to produce 3,500 MW tops. That number is determined based on several tests which also take into consideration the amount of wind available. same goes for the solar plants. So it doesn't really matter if the wind is available 24/7 or not! The plants will generate said energy, no questions asked.
