2G scam: Raja aide Sadiq Batcha found hanging in Chennai residence

CHENNAI: Former telecom minister A Raja's aide and realtor Sadiq Batcha was found dead, hanging, at his residence in Chennai on Wednesday. CBI had questioned Batcha in connection with the 2G spectrum scam.

Police sources said Batcha might have committed suicide. Apollo Hospitals, where he was rushed to, confirmed that he was brought dead.

Sadiq Batcha was managing director of real estate firm Green House Promoters. Raja's relatives have stakes in Green House promoters.

Janata Party President and the petitioner in the 2G scam probe Subramanian Swamy, on Wednesday, demanded investigation into the death of A Raja's aide Sadiq Batcha.
"The most important thing is that suicide and murders are going to be a common part of the 2G investigations because reputations of too many people are involved in the case," Swamy said.
Swamy refused to accept that Batcha would have committed suicide, as reports say. He said, "I do not accept the fact that Batcha would have committed suicide. The CBI should find the complete truth."
"Sadiq was not a weak heart. He was a hard boiled character. I want to be doubly sure on whether it is a suicide or not," he added.
Swamy also said that top people could be involved in Batcha's death who he could not name.
A Raja's close associate Sadiq Batcha committed suicide in Chennai on Wednesday. His body was taken to Chennai's Apollo Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. His body was then taken to the Government Hospital in Royapeta for postmortem.
Batcha was the Managing Director of a real estate company Green House Promoters, alleged to be a front company for Raja.
"It is a huge scandal and the CBI should look into the matter, as it is under their scanner and make up their mind as everyone at top level are vulnerable to this situation," Swamy said.
