The arrested Indian fishermen claimed they mistakenly penetrated into the Bangladesh territory

The Bangladesh Navy has arrested 28 more Indian fishermen from near the Fairway Buoy of the Bay of Bengal under Bagerhat’s Mongla upazila on Thursday for trespassing into the Bangladesh water territory.

M Manjur Elahi, sub-inspector of Mongla police station, said the Navy members detained the Indian fishermen in two trawlers - “FB Dakkhineswar” and “FB Joy Hanuaman” - while netting in the area, some 150 nautical miles away from the Mongla port.

The detainees, hailing from different areas in 24 Parganas district of Paschimbanga, were handed over to Mongla police yesterday and a case was lodged against them. The arrestees will be produced before the court of Bagerhat Chief Judicial Magistrate today.

Talking to reporters at the police station, the arrested Indian fishermen claimed they mistakenly penetrated into the Bangladesh territory.

With this, some 92 Indian fishermen have been arrested from the sea along with seven fishing trawlers for intruding the Bangladesh water territory in this month.
