Bangladesh Navy members detained 24 Sri Lankan fishermen in the Bay of Bengal for intruding into Bangladesh maritime boundary on Saturday.

Md Arefin Jewel, additional superintendent of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), said Navy members detained the Sri Lankan nationals while they were fishing in the Bay of Bengal.

Bangladesh Navy men handed them over to Patenga Police, he added.

Four fishing boats were seized and a case was filed with Patenga Police Station against them.

Our part of the Bay of Bengal is the richest fishing ground in the Bay. Reason being a lot of nutrients carried by Ganges-Brahmaputra river system. No wonder, a lot of fishermen from our neighboring countries covet that place. Unfortunately our fishing fleets is still outdated compared to them and until recently patrolling by Coast guard and Navy was also inadequate. So we are loosing a lot of marine fish to foreign thieves.

I do not know which govt agency manages the registration of trawlers but I have heard they earn big two pice by registering new trawlers. The owners of the already operating trawlers also do not allow an easy entry of new trawlers. As a result, the number of trawlers remains insufficient and become rusty and old.

The result is Indian and Sri Lankan boats regularly enter our sea and earn their living when millions of our people go to ME for jobs. The situation must be rectified so that more fishing trawlers are given permits.

However, I also believe that our people's food habits also need change. Many non-shore people cannot just enjoy the sea fishes, it is salty for them. Only Chittagong and Noakhali belt people cherish them. So, even the catch is expanded, its market cannot be expanded because of this bad habit of non-shore people.

So, the situation is rather complex that must be rectified so that all the BD people eat sea fish and the Coastal Guards stop the intruding foreign boats.

Well regardless of the Sri Lankan troll's views, we all know Sri Lankan employees are employed in heavy numbers in all Bangladesh companies illegally and Sri Lanka Govt. and economy DEPENDS (hear that troll?? DEPENDS) on remittance paid in Billions of dollars from Bangladesh. As does Indian economy.

Why don't you give a source or statistics instead of making up nonsense

Debt laden idiots boast with pictures of their cities built on debts they cannot pay back.

At least whatever BD builds, it does with it's own money or is able to service the debt.

Sri Lanka is another incompetent S Asian country.
So where is the statistics for the so-called Billions of foreign remittances from BD? Who is the one boasting about SL getting Billions of foreign remittances from a country with 4 times less GDP per Capita?

Please teach that rich @Gibbs from SL that with a (7% - 2%)=5% difference in growth, BD per capita will double only in 14 years. In that case, SL will be only 2.2/2.0 = 1.1 times ahead of BD. In one extra year, it will be equal and from then on it will keep on surpassing SL per capita by leaps and bounds.

SL living standard is low and it is surviving by selling precious stones to the world. No good roads, no industry, and no prospect of employment. MM and SL are two sisters. MM sells Jades and SL sales other types of stones. However, SL is already under the Chinese debt trap and MM is to be trapped when BD military purchases will force MM to lease their country to China to buy weapons.

Actually this year it is more closer to 1% per capita growth and they barely increased their per capita last year.
Sri Lanka economy is dead in the water and going nowhere till they sort their debt issues out which will take many many years at least.

If we look at total Sri Lanka GDP of 87 billion US dollars for last year and that total external debt is 55 billion US dollars, then this is no less than 63% of their GDP.
Sri Lanka budget is just 17 billion US dollars and the debt repayments are around 5 billion US dollars which is 30% of their total budget! I have not even taken into account domestic debt repayments.

Contrast this with BD that had a GDP of 320 billion US dollars and total external debt of 52 billion US dollars last year, which is just 16% of GDP.
BD budget is 62 billion US dollars and external debt repayments are 1.8 billion US dollars which is just 3% of the total budget.

Now these Sri Lankan idiots make fun of a virtually debt free BD that has ample resources to pay back its debt, while their economy is crushed under un-payable debts and the Chinese have taken their port like a pawn shop holding onto the family silver as their loans have not been paid back as agreed. You cannot make this comedy show up.:woot:

I would like permission to fish in the bay of Bengal

Going by this thread, you should stick to international waters (thankfully theres plenty in the Bay) lol.

Bongles here in PDF are pure entertainment

LOL right? Funniest part is when they stronk their "GDP/growth rate" like one of those emaciated noobs at a gym celebrating its first empty-bar 5 rep bench press lol.....and saying it reps as many as the actual guys (with lot of weights on theirs) of note there and should be taken seriously. A severe inferiority basket case inertia complex drives this all lol.

That is the effect of adding 3 - 4 % inflation points to your growth figure lol (if you look at what the actual consumption of actual things of note is) to pad for more loan borrowing. Inflated Taka extrapolation STRONK!

What are we on now? The 6th or 7th instance of "export of xyz" that never pans out a year later in the cold hard non-BD media figures?

Their market cap took a severe hit from 70 billion to just 30 billion USD in space of a year (when ANYTHING close to 5+% real growth would at least hold it at previous level with such a low pathetic base...or preferably easily grow it). Their physical consumption of basic materials stays severely depressed, energy per capita being as low as the 1960s south asian average....yet the clowns in here still want 1:1 conversion of Taka to USD (For budget stronk and whatever else).

This is all taking a real toll now on the one thing they relied upon (RMG)....0% tariffed yet dropping now. I guess it will have to be another lesson learned the hard way....not smart enough for any other mode of learning.

Yet they keep reaching regardless for all these rainbows and butterflies lol...no matter how much of a laughing stock they become doing so. Emotions and feelz! Inflation, sheer stupidity and gross inferiority complex are their constant best friends....hence why they end up where they end up in real life lol.

He brags about 4 times, yet our budget and GDP both are four times theirs.
India has a GDP and budget greater than most developed countries. Having a million ppl with a coin each doesn't mean anything when another has a thousand with 2 coins each.

India's GDP growth has plummeted to nearly 3.5% in the last quarter of last FY. On the other hand, BD growth is floating over 7%. The GoB is spending billions of dollars on public works projects that are keeping our people on the payroll. India has fallen into a middle-income trap, never to come out of this syndrome quickly.

Important indicators are the GDP growth and per capita GDP/income. With more than 1.3 billion population India's total GDP at $2 trillion is higher than that of England. Yet, Indians go to England to sweep streets there. So, what does it mean to you?

Illegal Fishing: 24 Sri Lankan fishers sent to jail in port city
Staff Correspondent, Ctg

Twenty-four Sri Lankan fishermen have been arrested from the Bay of Bengal on charges of fishing illegally inside Bangladesh's maritime boundary in Chattogram, said police.

Four fishing trawlers have also been seized during the drive, they added.

The detainees were handed over to Patenga Police Station on Friday night, while a court in Chattogram sent them to jail yesterday, said police sources.

An official press release from Bangladesh Navy said members of "BNS Omar Faruk" during their patrolling in deep sea spotted four fishing trawlers carrying foreign nationals in Bangladesh water territory near the port on Tuesday night.

The navy intercepted the trawlers -- Sea Horse, Wasana-01, Wasana-03 and Sanju Putha-07 -- and informed the higher authorities.

Meanwhile, a press release of Chattogram Metropolitan Police stated that another ship of navy -- BNS Surovi -- brought the fisherman to the naval base in Patenga on Thursday.

Utpal Barua, officer-in-charge of Patenga Police Station, said, "Shafiqul Islam, an official of BNS Surovi, handed over the Sri Lankan fishermen to us on Friday evening, and filed a case against them for entering Bangladesh maritime border and catching fish illegally."

Sub-inspector Abu Sayed Rana of the police station is investigating the case, he said.

Md Kamruzzaman, additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) of CMP, said a metropolitan court sent them to jail after they were produced before it.
