For me it was always a Resolution Day since ita the only explanation I have heard since childhood. Then i came to know Pakistan had its first constitution passed on 23rd March i thought they deliberately did it co incide with Pakistan Day. Today i read this column and now it seems it was Republic day to begin with and got converted to Resolution Day
Summary of Above Column
Pakistan got its first constitution passed on 23rd March 1956 and became a Republic instead of Dominion and hence got totally Independent of the British. So to commemorate the Day Gov. held a ceremony including Military Parade foreign dignitaries were invited and hence Republic Day was celebrated . In the coming years some journalists pointed out that Republic Day coincides with the Date of Lahore Resolution and this connection between Republic and resolution day was formed . During Military Regime Republic Day got converted to Resolution Day and slowly Republic Day was totally forgotten. the author tried to submit a request to PM back in 2009 but was told its not a good time
