23 lakh went abroad in 4 yrs, sent $55b remittance

DHAKA, July 10, 2013 (BSS) - Some 22.66 lakh people went abroad with employment in the four years and six months of the present government and sent US$ 54.24 billion as remittance.
Besides, nearly five lakh expatriate workers in Saudi Arabia are expected to be legalized soon, as the Saudi government has decided to bring some changes in "Ikama" due to the successful diplomacy of the government, said an official handout today.
Meanwhile, the government of Malaysia has legalized 2,67,803 unauthorized expatriate workers in the country. The government has also inked an agreement with Malaysian government that has opened the door to export more manpower to the country.
In 2009, the expatriate workers sent US$ 10.72 billion as remittance while the amount stood at US$ 14.46 billion in the last fiscal, the handout added.
