I don't think the government cares too much at this point. The reality is, for the past 30 years people have been mistaking restraint for weakness. We have been giving an inch, and they are taking a foot. It is still the case in Asia where, for instance, in Hong Kong the restraint of the police has been regarded as weakness on their part.

That is why, now is the time to hit back, otherwise what else will they ask? "Please disband your government and put on shackles to maintain good relations?" Only a demonstration of strength, such as sanctions on Australia and enabling police to purge terrorists per national security law, will allow people to realize that there is a limit to patience.
