Several others were also reportedly injured in the roadside blast. The blast also damaged a number of vehicles parked on the road causing panic in the area.

The deputy senate chairman has been shifted to a nearby hospital.

QUETTA: At least 10 people were killed and Deputy Senate Chairman Maulana Ghafoor Hyderi sustained injuries on Friday as his convoy came under attack in Mastung area of Quetta.

The JUI-F leader’s convoy was passing by a mosque after Friday prayers when the blast occurred. Thirty five others were reportedly injured in the roadside blast.

Levies officials have cordoned off the area and a search operation has started. Meanwhile emergency has been declared at Civil Hospital.

The blast also damaged a number of vehicles parked on the road causing panic in the area.

At least nine people are dead and many others feared injured in an explosion in Balochistan's Mastung area near a mosque on Friday shortly after jummah prayers.

Deputy Chairman Senate Abdul Ghafoor Hyderi's convoy was the worst hit in the attack. Hyderi said, speaking to media that he had suffered minor injuries.

The explosion occurred right as Hyder's convoy exited a local mosque.

Levies sources said that at least three people were killed in the attack. Police say many others are injured and rescue operations are underway. Levies, police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel are present at the site of the attack, which has been cordoned off.

The wounded are being taken to Mastung Civil Hospital, while those in critical condition are being transported to Quetta for treatment.

An emergency has been declared at Civil Hospital Mastung and more doctors have been called in, hospital sources said.

It happened in Mastung and not Quetta. Mastung is at a far distance from Quetta.
