Medical College Student Commits Suicide Out Of Depression


The student was in his final year of MBBS at Khyber Medical College



Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 7th February, 2019) Depression and anxiety are very common these days. Be it a common man or a high profile celebrity, most of the people seem to be suffering from depression in one way or the other.

We have seen various people committing suicide due to depression as well.

Sometimes the people who appear the most energetic and lively to us are the ones who are the victims of such mental illnesses.

In a related incident, a student of Khyber Medical College has allegedly committed suicide because of depression.

The student was in his final year of MBBS at the college.

Tasneem Anjum, belonged to Mardan area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Police officials said that the youth committed suicide because of depression. However, they said it is too early to say something about the incident.

The police are investigating the incident.

The body of the young medical student has been shifted to a local hospital for post-mortem.

The dead body will be handed over to the heirs after medico-legal formalities.

In last two days, two medical students of reputable medical colleges committed suicide. I am shocked and heartbroken at the same time k ye ho kia rha hai hmari society may. And what bothers me most is the attitude of our people towards such news. I'm actually not surprised how people and specifically these social media posts are acting so indifferent to suicides and depression. Well sorry to burst your bubble of pride here but this attitude is EXACTLY what draws someone to that final step and then you people sit here sharing posts like haram maut mar gaya etc. You guys don't take it seriously until they do it. People suffering from depression, anxiety etc wants genuine medical attention and counselling, not your superstitions. They don't want your advices, they only need to talk it out and get proper counselling. They NEED HELP not your freaking judgements. This system and this mentality is the actual culprit here, not the ones who lose all their hopes and think ending it will be less painful than living it. Parents need to talk to their children and observe their child's changing behaviour. Schools and Colleges need to hire professional psychologists/therapists to assess the students and provide them proper counselling.
Taking treatment for MENTAL ILLNESS should not be considered a TABOO.

university professors in Pakistan are horrible they think they are some sort of deities
They have no regard for students there is no law that can question in School/College teachers are answerable to Parents\Principal but sadly thats not the case in university

You have yourself provided the answer is that the education system is at fault. Same in case of India. The system does not encourage innovative and free thinking, and the need to challenge the current knowledge and then replace it or enhance it.

Kota ?? The name say it all. Btw i dont just blame education system only. Major contributory factor is parenting. People naming their kids with multiple A’s in start so that their name come first in class. Such is the mentality .. AAkansha... Aayush. Etc.. watched a standup comedy on this particular issue though video was hilarious but topic is very serious. We all decide what our kid will be after 10 years. 10 years later all we know is that our kid is now marching in gay prade. So why plan that much ?

And the third pillar i.e; the kids. Why suicide ? Not able to bear the stress ? Quit. Thats why i somehow supported child labor (not forced labor) in a thread citing the same reasons that it build your personality and make you a man before you grow mustaches amd beard. I did those field works and i am OK with anysort of Study/work pressure. We can debate on this if you want ne to explain.

I don't know what's the exact story but according to yusuf 's friend , teachers failed him in MBBS 2nd year annual and was again failed in the supply examination, he declared that it was unfair and not based on honesty so he recorded his protest , when teachers agreed to his protest , they again postponed the exams for two months and during that , third year result was also announced. He became disheartened and committed suicide .
Must be facing lots of pressure , sad .

I too support youngsters who work, if the situation does not guarantee schooling.
