Named after the river Betwa, the frigate has been in service for over a decade. It was indigenously designed and built with the capability to operate at extended ranges, with speeds up to 30 knots.

Both missing guys are confirmed dead.

Two sailors were killed and 14 others were being treated for minor injuries

It is an accursed ship

This ship was already out of service since 2014

In 2014 it had met with an accident and was in repairs

Since this ship was NOT operationally deployed

INS Betwa had run aground in January 2014 and collided with an unidentified object which led to a crack in its sonar system, and had also seen saltwater ingress into sensitive equipment.

Most of the material if not damaged then likely to have been flooded by now.

According to a media report, the INS Betwa titled 90 degrees and the main mast has broken, the tribuneindia.com reported.

The mast houses the surveillance radars.

Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba has left for Mumbai to visit the site where INS Betwa met with the accident.

The ship was at the ' Cruiser Graving dock' in Mumbai. The dock is under the Navy and the warship was to go out to sea after a re-fit.

project, dissolved the Naval Dock yard Construction Committee, which had been overseeing the expansion of the Dockyard on behalf of the Government of India, and ordered the formation of a Naval Dockyard Expansion scheme with Commodore (later Admiral) S.M. Nanda as its first Director General. He was armed with adequate facilities,finance and authority to steer the project clear of the hazards it had so far been faced with. In 1960 Rear Admiral P.K.Mookerji of the Navy's Engineering Branch took over as the Director General and,during his long tenure of seven and a half years in this assignment, suc ceeded in completing several major projected works

Construction of the cruiser-graving dock, equipped with three Pump-houses, two heavy-duty cranes and the attendant services, was well under way when it was decided to acquire the Navy's first aircraft carrier,Vikrant.The dock was, therefore, suitably extended and its shore end modified to accommodate the carrier's forecastle and its protruding gun sponsons.

The areas reclaimed around the cruiser-graving dock and the newly constructed wharves were utilised for the construction of workshops for the repair and maintenance of propulsion machinery, generators, weapons, weapon control systems, sensors, data transmission systems and navigational equipment installed on board the ships acquired after Independence.

The dock is part of indian PSU, how do you fine a PSU? Sure hold a inquiry and sack those responsible, and make changes but to fine, would make little sence.
