1962 war tried to wake up Nehru with heavy punch: China daily

Nehru and his "forward"policy caused that trouble

qgg3v3063.jpg

no way u chinese ccp worker... It was the Chinese greed and Back Stabbing to India which resulted in it.... After takig overTIbet as USUAL with Land Grabbing China it put its eyes on Indian terriroty... that resulted in everything else from forward policy to the war..... its similar to your actions in SCS... chinese back stabbed India and India got to know real intentions of chinese.... and now u cant dare touch us....

Wasn't it china that aggressively annexed Tibet and expelled its leaders ? India has always maintained diplomatic ties with Tibet and many consider it a spiritual destination. Even then India showed immense restraint.

By 1957 , and much before the dalai lama even crossed the Mac-Mahon line India-Peking ( now Beijing ) relations were rather strained. When an Indian parliamentarian ( Kushak Bakula ) visited Tibet, he noticed evidence of intense road building towards sinkiang. Then in July 1958, a chinese magazine printed a map that showed large parts of NEFA and Ladakh as Chinese territory.

We didn't start anything. You claimed our land and we were forced to defend it. In the end we lost but managed to seize Tawang in exchange for the wasteland that is aksai chin.

see above Chinese ccp worker, chinese greed was the result of everthing ... like the greed of ccp now in SCS.... but the world is aware of u ppl now... count your last few days for criminal ccpians...

keep spreading false and fake news across china to serve and protect the monster of ccp.. the world knows things diffferently then the four walled chinese with only ccp radio...

It's about time we gave up our "No first strike policy" considering the fact that growing china-pak relations has threatened our border stability and heavy expansion and modernization of chinese army.

Having 4.7 million troops , i don't think that is necessary.

Joint Sino-Pakistani military threat can be addressed, if India has better logistics, and more indigenous weapons building capacity.

Nuclear weapons, remain for preventing MAD not for preventing conventional military adventures of the enemy.

Nehru ruined the whole South Asia, traumatic till today.

this subcontinent should be no less backward than East Asia.

Nehru was not alone in Screwing up Sub Continent.. Jinna was also responsible in fact he played a bigger role...

every leader of that time was responsible for the missarable state of that time.
Jihna feared that MUSLIMS might not get due rights, but is it so in current INDIA? I am not sure about the north, but in south INDIA we share diwali sweets with muslim borthers and sisters while they share us mutton biriyani during bakrid and ramzan.

Nehru was a man far greater than you or I. Every Indian must be proud that our land had a son like nehru.

Yes, 1962 happened, but that doesn't make him any smaller. He was the only force holding back communal violence and total breakdown of our country. He made India stable. He is the grand architect of modern India.

I implore you Indian members here to open your eyes and pay respects to a man who sacrificed a lot to assure us our freedom and maintain our national integrity.

You could not be more wrong. While I don't doubt Nehru's integrity or patriotism - I think he was a woeful Prime Minister. For the first couple years he was a mere rubber stamp Prime Minister - with pretty much all decisions being taken by Vallabhbhai Patel. The Nehru era picked up after Patel and lasted till '64. He embrace of socialism was downright daft as was his weakening of what at independence was the finest fighting force in Asia.

Excellent Summarization. I would want to add something here.

There are two border disputes which was the main reason for the 1962 war.

1. Though China and India agreed on the Mcmahon line as the border between Tibet and India, the disagreement was around where the line passes.
2. There was also separate dispute in the Akshai Chin due to Johnson line vs Macartney line.

Here is the brief history -

1. Johnson line north of Karakoram Range presented to Kashmir Maharaja in 1865 as the China/Kashmir border.
2. Macartney line which passes along the Karakoram range and was convenient to British was presented as the China border in 1899.
3. British reestablished Johnson line as the border in 1941.
4. India adopted Johnson line as the border.
5. China had built a road between western Tibet and Xinjiang - part of the road passing south of the Johnson line in 1950s. The road itself was discovered by India in 1957 and was the start of the dispute.

So it was not Nehru's forward policy which was the start of the war but the item 5 which was the start of the dispute. Considering the excellent relations India had with China at that time, China should have discussed the Akshai Chin issue freely with India instead of keeping India in the dark and laying the road.
