In case you have not noticed Irfan Baloch, the problem is growing very steadily.

Increasing numbers from these 1.5 billion are committing violence on others. And the rest of the world will also start pushing back slowly as is evident by the increasing protests in Europe and Australia. Indeed it has started but only in fits and starts. The world has started seeing the actions of Muslims around the globe because of the free flow of information in the digital world.

No longer are non-Muslims content by seeing Muslims kill the Others, only to have some other Muslims come and whitewash it by saying 'this is not real Islam', 'Islam is peace'.

This 'one-two', well practiced routine does not work anymore, it did for a long time, but people are slowly seeing through this now.

It was very peaceful before the overthrow of the government in 1991. There were some issue in the north due to secessionist rebellions, but the country was doing well. When the civil war erupted, Somalia went through 15 years of devastating civil war, and in 2006 the Union of Islamic Courts arose from lawlessness, kicked the warlords out, and restored stability. Then suddenly Washington unleashed Ethiopian ground forces, with US Special Forces, and supported by American air power. It was reminiscent of the invasion against Afghanistan in 2001.

Al-Shabaab came out of this invasion, and initially started as a religious and nationalist response to the Ethiopian aggression. They launched bruising guerrilla war against the invading Ethiopian forces and was able to drive them out in 2009.

However, their demise came in after they imposed harsh interpretation of Islamic law, refused to have a national reconciliation plan, and opposed every government that was restored. Their motto has become that they will not accept any thing less than an Islamic state. They declared allegiance to bogeymen named Al-Qaeda, and started fighting all other resistance groups, the government, and the African Union troops.

Their current attack on Kenya should be understood that they are dying horse that is going on rampage. Their claim of defending Islam is bogus as they kill more Muslims in Somalia than non-Muslims.

Anyway the best way to get rid of this evil is to get to the rooot of it i.e how they get radicalised mainly in mosques by some extremists Imams/clerics, religious leaders. As far as govenments dont supervise/get control of this religious place of worships and clamp down on their use of social media/internet to spread their jihadi messages then we will barely be cutting the branches by killing the militants/bombers who carry out this act while the real/big bosses remain calmly and continue to spread by their evil ideologies.
