12 Megaprojects to Go Live in Three Months (Bengali Video)

Dhaka to Jessore rail link via Padma bridge is progressing apace. Detailed description of all new stations and trackage follows in the video. Bonus is the pretty countryside of Bangladesh. They don't have this color of bright green anywhere else in the world.

I am wondering how are they going to pay the loans taken for so many mega projects? Our export earnings and remittance inflows are not increasing rapidly. We should not start any new mega projects until the current ones are finished.

These mega projects were okayed by ECNEC at least a decade ago.

With all this public sector debt, our debt to GDP ratio is still far lower than other South Asian countries.

In that case, we can start the construction of 2nd Padma bridge soon:partay:

All projects should have formal feasibility studies done.

Projects should only proceed when demonstrable returns of Investments (substantial ones) are evident.

You are correct that there is room for more projects to proceed with in Bangladesh but do not know if specific projects offer good ROI.

With labor costs low, now is the time to build certain transport logistics (ports, railways) and export zone infra projects that will help our export drive into the future, to grow our economy.

By 2030 entire Dhaka will be covered by Metrorail MRT lines. Planning Minister Mannan takes a ride to check things out for himself. Planning minister is one of the only BAL ministers I like personally. Educated guy.

MRT-6 stations from Bijay Sarani to Motijheel almost ready for inauguration (2nd Phase), still to come are extension of MRT-6 to Kamalapur Terminus (3rd and final phase of MRT-6) which will connect all MRT lines, Buses and long-distance Railway tracks. Kamalapur will be re-built as a massive logistics hub.

Dhaka as seen from a moving motorcycle
This video did not show Dhaka's notorious traffic jam. We need to build underground rail system to reduce traffic congestions in Dhaka.

Traffic jams are not common except in older part of Dhaka and in the Azimpur/Dhanmondi areas.

Many of the next upcoming MRT lines (Lines 1, 2, 4 and 5) will be underground at least partially.

Underground lines will be built only in crowded urbanized densely populated areas, which will be more expensive to build and maintain (even cheap cut and cover situation, not true tunnel boring underground lines) - compared to viaducts (The first one, Line 6, is built on top of viaducts).

Here are more details on Lines 1, 2, 4 and 5.

Note that MRT Line 1 (currently under construction, 2nd line to be built in Dhaka) will be partly viaduct, part underground. Line 4 is still in doubt as non-feasible (Narayanganj route) because there is a dual gauge train line which has been upgraded already for urban commuter rail use. However it still maybe built and extended South.

Further expansion of existing MRT Line 6 is planned, with the hope of extending it towards Tongi in Gazipur metropolitan and Savar Upazila.

This is the latest on Metro lines 2 and 4, which are still under planning and will be the last ones implemented. Please take a look at the map above (clickable to magnify) for understanding the placement of the routes.

New stations to open in Dhaka Metro MRT-6 Phase II - daily ridership in MRT-6 to exceed 50 lakhs.

Progress in Chittagong elevated expressway

Padma Rail link progress, trains will go from Kamalapur to Mawa junction in 1st phase. Narrator has Bangla pronunciation issues and video is ten minutes (repetitive)

Mongla port is taking up the slack from over-taxed Chittagong. But Payra and Matarbari are coming up online in another five years. Large dredging project underway is going to help high draft vessels dock at this historic port.
