At least nine passengers had been killed and two other wounded as their vehicle hit a roadside mine in Maidan Wardak province, officials said Tuesday.

Spokesman for the provincial governor, Shahedullah Shaheed told Wakht News Agency that a Townace type-vehicle going to Kabul struck a roadside mine in Haft Asyab area of Sayed Abad district resulting in killing at least 6 onboard and wounding 5 other.

He blamed the armed Taliban for planting the mine to target the joint Afghan and coalition forces convoy crossing the area, an incident with yet to be commented by the rebels.

Nearly 8 days ago, a senior counterterrorism worker along with his three guards had been killed when his vehicle hit a roadside mine in Kundoz province.
