Please pardon my jumping into the topic but am asking since you seem to be an expert in south Indian history sir.
Are Sri Lankans (the non Tamilian Sinhalese) descendants of what we called Asuras of ancient times? Same as Rakshasas?
What were they before the advent of Buddhism? Were they also Hindu?
I'm not a Sinhalese but Sinhalese have Bengali and Some Western Indian origins.. But of cause through intermarriage over thousands of years, Those genetics are mixed.. Inhabitants of Ceylon before the arrival of Sinhalese were considered to be more or less animists and a few Hindu's
