The share is not 50% to TN and 30% to Kerala - Here is the split.
Out of the 2,000 MWe to be generated from the two reactors at Kudankulam, Tamil Nadus share will be 925 MWe. Karnataka will receive 442 MWe, Kerala 266 MWe, Puducherry 67 MWe and the unallocated share is 300 MWe.
First unit of Kudankulam plant undergoing tests | The Hindu
Two to three months can be the last straw on Camel's back - The TN power crisis became a major issue 2 years ago(not when the project was envisioned) and the news I quoted about Coimbatore appeared in Rediff some 6 months ago.
It is not an easy situation over there. Spoke to someone living in US but who belong to that area. There are many people beyond those active mfos who are concerned due to the size of the plant. They are concerned that this is the first large sized plant in India. All these translate into vote bank politics as amma is eyeing the next year Lok Sabha elections. Though she has thrown her weight for the Kudankulam she wants to ensure that all the fringe elements outside of the core group are satisfied. And he mentioned once the fringe elements are happy, it is a matter of time she will take care of the core group.
Hi, The operative term was 'was'. Hence the agreement was between TN and Kerala to receive 50% and 30% respectively.
The agreement that you are saying is of current. was just giving a background to the current scenario.
Its not easy then sashan....This has been the case for last 2 or 3 years..... 1st it was assembly election.... then it was local body election..... now the parliament election..... But what worries me is once that is over another 1.5 years assembly election.... so this cycle is going to continue...... There are lot of issues.... I heard lot more when i lived in chennai (from reliable sources and i cannot post that here due to its sensitiveness and i do not want myself into any trouble) on this issue..... Those days it was too complicated... politicians made it complicated.... I even heard the severe power cuts were one way out to reduce the resistance of poeple on koodankulam....
Can you share a link regarding this agreement?
I do understand it is not easy and it is frustrating for many in TN as well but the government had slept while the web of fear and distrust was spun by various NGOs around the people living there. Any drastic steps by amma will only hurt her big time as the opposition headed by Karuna will play the votebank politics including selling his own mom. But hopefully the plan becomes operational from next month.

I don't understand why the GoI is going to such extreme measures to shut up a few fvckers who are being paid by foreigners.
A few weeks/months delay is no biggie.

AP, Karnataka may eat into state share of Koodankulam pie - The New Indian Express
Preman Dinaraj, Director (Finance), NPCIL, while speaking at the Workshop on Energy and Environment conducted by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation here on Friday. He said Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh were not in favour of taking power from the KKNPP in Tamil Nadu when the construction of the nuclear power plant began in 2002-03. Being the host state, Tamil Nadu was to get 50 per cent of the power and Kerala 30 per cent, he noted.
Yes exactly. Any mega project involves a lot of re-rehabilitation costs, law and order troubles and not to mention political implications. While every state governments wants to steer clear of such troubles, they want their share once the pie is baked. I'm therefore in favor of TN being allocated atleast 80-90% power from KKNPP and other states who want power from central plants co-operate on setting plant in their state. Power is a precious commodity and likely to remain so in future with Fossil powered plants facing fuel crisis, all of us including politicians would do well to accept the fact that unless newer Non fossil fuel burning plants come up, future is going to literally dark.
