$100 Billion Chinese-made city near Singapore ‘scares everybody’

IMHO, China's development in Malaysia is not a zero sum game to Singapore. the new ports are not meant to replace Singapore, instead they are meant to capture the new volume from much larger Chinese economy in the coming decades. when China's economy is twice as big as today, the volume of trade will be twice too (more or less). adding richer Philippine, Vietnam and Malaysia into the equation, the existing capacity at Singapore is not going to support it.

I mentioned the attitude of Chinese members here. Go through the posts of your comrades threatening Singapore. They want SG to join them cos China is a rich country now. According to them.

What Chinese members here are saying is that if Singapore continues encouraging US meddling in SCS it should be careful of missing economic opportunities with China. I believe that is very reasonable as SCS disputes doesn't involve the US at all yet Singapore likes to send out a message that the US should meddle with it. Also this news will have some impact as well https://defence.pk/threads/hong-kon...icles-from-taiwan-bound-for-singapore.462922/

If you think this is called arrogance then be it so, people who can think logically would agree Singapore need to be taught a lesson not to step on China's toes.

Countries like Singapore are entirely dependant on the status quo order underwritten by USA. As and when another power (China) comes along and provides a alternative order that offers more and is there to stay watch hoow fast countries like Singapore will change their posture.

Somewhere within Singapore there will be fear of Malaysia or indonesia gobbling them up. Being part of the US order provided a assurance against such fears. When China can offer the same bonded guarantee south East Asia will begin to re-configure.

Despite Singapore being majority ethnic Chinese, I have a feeling that Indonesia and Malaysia are going to be much more important partners for us in the future.

This is geopolitics, where national interests reign supreme.

And so I can't blame Singapore either, they are looking out for their own national interests too. As they should, after all they are Singaporean citizens, not Chinese citizens.

I think it is very normal that they tend their own interests. But, it is very wrong on their part to attempt to harm China's sovereignty. Because, when they breach China's sovereignty, they also open up the way for China to respond in kind and violate their own sovereignty.

China urges Singapore to strictly adhere to one-China policy
(Xinhua) November 28, 2016

BEIJING, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- China Monday urged Singapore to strictly adhere to the one-China policy after nine Singaporean armored vehicles, reportedly used in military drills in Taiwan, were seized by Hong Kong customs last week.

"The Chinese side has lodged representations with the Singaporean side," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a daily news briefing, adding that China has demanded that Singapore abide by the laws of Hong Kong and cooperate with the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in handling the matter.

Geng said the Chinese government strongly opposes any official interactions between Taiwan region and any country that has established diplomatic relations with China, including military exchanges and cooperation.

"We demand that the Singaporean government adhere to the one-China policy strictly and sincerely," said the spokesman.

I agree, I have no idea what they were thinking when they were trying to breach the One China Policy.

The policy is clear, and agreed upon by both the PRC and the ROC. You can only recognize one, and have to break off relations with the other one.

China, has in fact been milder toward Singapore in its effort to set up trade links with Taiwan.

Beijing did not object the Taiwan-SG FTA in 2013, which was quite a rare behavior. Perhaps Beijing feels SG does not really respond in a frank manner to China's good will.

By the way, interestingly, SG government website does not list TW-SG FTA among the FTAs that were completed or under negotiation.
