Electricity fuel: Govt opts to replace coal-run power plants with LNG

In UK/Germany people have grid tied systems where they sell the electricity to the grid. No need for extra transmission system. If introduced in Pakistan this will compliment the grid and help reduce the shortage in the short term and may even reduce tariff price for people.

Electricity fuel: Govt opts to replace coal-run power plants with LNG

Agreed. Think long term and plan for it. Invest in hydro, solar, coal and nuclear (25% each and have extra capacity for future growth). Replace the current power plants which run on furnace oil to LNG.

    Democratic system and Pakistan

Thanks Slav Defence. I agree that corruption cannot be eliminated 100%. So how do we setup these wings? Are these wings accountable to anyone? How do we insure that it is not discriminating against a sect, tribe or cast? I think we can learn a thing or two from the Libyan jamahiriya?

    Democratic system and Pakistan

Very good post Slav Defence and I have learned something new today. I am not sure where to start but no system will work if the nation as a whole is party to all sorts of ills (bribery, corruption, dishonesty, injustice etc). Don't want to derail the thread but I would say start resolving the...

China backing out on power project

I think one needs to understand the core problems with the energy sector (power in this case) in Pakistan. There is enough capacity to cope with the current demand. Even if we take account of the losses through the transmission and distribution lines (needs upgrading) and theft (theft need to be...

FBR 134bRs behind the tax collection target after seven months

Yes I know the meaning and how income tax works. I am not even against taxation! It is very easy to tax salaries as these are set amounts no matter what. People get their salaries even if the business losses money. In UK we pay 20%, 40%, 45% tax on salaries (this depends on the amount one earns...

FBR 134bRs behind the tax collection target after seven months

Vast majority of Pakistani farmers are very small farmers. These will be making ends meet. Some years they make money and other years they lose money. So for them farming is normally not profitable. On the other hand large farmers will make money and lots of it. These guys can afford expensive...

Are Pakistanis' "self entitlement" problem ruining Pakistan's budget? Sell petrol for 2 rupee/litre

Very good post. In the UK people pay like twice as much as in Pakistan for petrol. Now I can understand that the living standard is higher and availability of public transport etc. People need to understand that the government only gets money from taxes. It does not have money trees which could...

Shale oil and gas technology - An alternative to a N-deal?

I don't think it is the alternative. Fracking will need water to extract the gas. Pakistan is a water scarce country. Pakistan should concentrate on hydro, solar/wind and nuclear energy. Could add coal to the mix as well.

1800 MW to be added in national grid before summer season: Abid

There is enough capacity to cope with the current demand. But there a few problems: 1) Losses through the transmission and distribution lines. The infrastructure needs upgrading and also capacity should be added for future growth. Overall stands at 17% I think. This loss will be recovered from...

US drone strike kills six in North Waziristan: officials

They should sweep the entire area by any means. Add these districts to KP and under the normal laws.

Missing MQM worker found dead, parts of Karachi shut down( till that not stops no peace to karachi ?

I think it is better to understand the problems and root causes for these killings and then try to prevent further killings. A working judiciary and police would make the biggest difference. The next step would be to respect ethnic groups and benefit from diversity. I think it is time to stop...

KP hailed for laws on minorities properties, institutions

A good step in safe guarding the minorities but I think the core problem is lack of knowledge, education and tolerance to minorities. This in turn make it difficult to implement the laws (There are other reasons too).

Pakistani Oil and Gas will finish by 2025-2030, Dr Iqtidar Cheema

There are a great deal of things which can be done. Rather then having a generator in every house People can cooperate and set-up a back-up power generation for their own towns/cities to combat the power outages.

Pakistani Oil and Gas will finish by 2025-2030, Dr Iqtidar Cheema

You can use wood, husks etc for gasification. In India they have small scale power generation which run on this gas plus diesel. Read up on gasification. Edit: One can use all sorts of waste products such as animal waste, poultry and household waste to generate power. Will and investment is needed.

Pakistani Oil and Gas will finish by 2025-2030, Dr Iqtidar Cheema

It is 140 MW. And such a project is not possible at that scale in Pakistan for the reasons you have described.

    an important constitutional question

I think there are bigger issues then not praying and hijab. For instance by not praying one is only inflicting blame on its own soul and not hurting anyone else. One has to be a good human being to become a Muslim. If you look at issues such as dishonesty, bribery, corruption, injustice...

Pakistani Oil and Gas will finish by 2025-2030, Dr Iqtidar Cheema

Very well said Sir. There are no shortcuts and the only way is to develop renewables such as hydro, wind and solar plus add coal and nuclear to the energy mix and prolong the depletion of resources. Pakistan is not even a rich country and they are producing power from furnace oil..... that is...

    A Path to peace

Thank you for the comments. Sorry for detracting the thread as I added other issues. Totally agree with the reforms in teaching. Agree with teaching the life of Prophet (peace be upon him). I will also add Quran to the mix. Don’t just read it but understand it. It would be excellent if we...
