Let’s talk the talk: Confronting Bangladesh’s national security threats

Thanks I did not know that. Makes you wonder what BD government's over these decades have been doing.

If US sanctions on Bangladesh increase, India will play its role: MJ Akbar

I think we are forgetting something. India will be backing Hasina/AL for it's own strategic interests. Without Hasina and AL, their NE region would still be in a state of turmoil and W Bengal would forever remain an impoverished hole. Hasina needs to offer India zero for any support as it is...

Bangladesh's growing economy entices US to maintain good relations: FM

I agree here with Momen. BD is predicted to be the fastest large developing economy in the world over the next 15 years by all long-range forecasts produced. The idea that US would impose tough sanctions over lack of democracy in BD is for the birds.

Let’s talk the talk: Confronting Bangladesh’s national security threats

I think that Hasina and BA leadership are so obsessed with infrastructure development and the economy that they somehow wishfully want to think that the military can wait till far off into the future to buy anything substantial like fighter jets. Trying to get into their heads, they may be...

Let’s talk the talk: Confronting Bangladesh’s national security threats

I am not saying only TRG-300 and that is enough. You mentioned that lack of 4+ gen fighters means that India has a veto and my counter-argument is that TRG-300 is even more of a threat to India and so that must have been "allowed". We can at least agree that BD needs all kinds of weapons...

Let’s talk the talk: Confronting Bangladesh’s national security threats

No one is arguing that India would not be able to find them and destroy them but the question is now long it would take them - it is not going to be some hours or even a few days. We are talking weeks here to locate and destroy evety single one and during that time they could be targeting...

Let’s talk the talk: Confronting Bangladesh’s national security threats

No they are not as they can be hidden in the forests of BD where it will be almost impossible for India to target them. This and the fact that they are mobile would make them highly survivable for a long time after outbreak of war. You give Indian military far too much credit here. If BD had...

Let’s talk the talk: Confronting Bangladesh’s national security threats

Again what explains the 18 TRG-300 Tiger MLRS systems that BA has? BD in a pre-emptive attack can seriously damage Indian economic and military infrastructure around it within a matter of minutes. 1-2 squadrons of Western 4+ gen fighters could do nowhere near as much damage to India. The lack...

Let’s talk the talk: Confronting Bangladesh’s national security threats

BD posters need to move on and understand that India is no threat to BD as that country is reliant on a stable and prosperous BD for its own prosperity and even its territorial integrity. India will just hurt itself by trying to hurt BD. Let us not look for ghosts that do not exist. I do of...

Thank you for your advice but better worry about Pakistan first.

Let’s talk the talk: Confronting Bangladesh’s national security threats

There is only one thing that annoys me about Hasina and BAL and that is their weak defence posture. BD should be spending 2% of GDP on defence for many years and had by now a minimum of 2 squadrons of Western fighters like either Eurofighter and Gripen. As long as BAF can give the BA and BN air...

WB considering aid to Dhaka-Ctg high-speed train, 4 more projects

The problem is that you thinking far too shallowly here. 1) Pandemic is over and statistically it is highly unlikely we will have another one for many more decades at least. 2) Effects of Ukraine-Russian war have already been "baked" into the world economy and in essence most of the damage...

GLOBAL INNOVATION INDEX: Bangladesh moves up 14 notches

India will find it harder to move up now but BD still has lots of low hanging fruit to pick.

GLOBAL INNOVATION INDEX: Bangladesh moves up 14 notches

"The lower ranking, however, highlights Bangladesh's weak education system, lack of human capital and research, and shortfall in business sophistication." Unfortunately BD started from almost zero in 1971. Even without doing much it will rise rapidly up the ranks over the next 10-15 years. BD...

WB considering aid to Dhaka-Ctg high-speed train, 4 more projects

I would not pay much attention to the ones that are pessimistic as they will always say that BD is too poor and the money is needed for other "more important" things. When the line is completed then BD would be a middle-income country with enough purchasing power to make the line economically...

WB considering aid to Dhaka-Ctg high-speed train, 4 more projects

The current line is 320km as it does not go in a straight line. With stops 150-60km/h would take more like 3 hours which is far too slow. The idea is to allow commute distances between Dhaka and Chittagong and the stops inbetween. By the time the line is built and BD needs to start repaying...

WB considering aid to Dhaka-Ctg high-speed train, 4 more projects

Great thing about clothing is that it is light and perfect replacement for passengers who would weigh something like 70kg each. Those pallets will not weigh more than the passenger seats they replace. The more you think about all the possibilities of what you can do with this line, the better...

WB considering aid to Dhaka-Ctg high-speed train, 4 more projects

I am talking about light goods such as garments. Nearly all garment factories are in on around Dhaka at this time. If BD is going to spend 11 billion US dollars on a high speed railway, then it may as well make the most of it. Thousands of trucks a day could be replaced with some dozens of...

WB considering aid to Dhaka-Ctg high-speed train, 4 more projects

No capacity on the highways and it would take 4 hours or more by truck, even when there is no traffic. 5-6 hours would be a more typical journey time. It may take 50-60 trucks to carry the same amount of goods as a single train and it can do the same journey in 1.5 hours on the new high speed line.

WB considering aid to Dhaka-Ctg high-speed train, 4 more projects

I think they were talking about transporting garments from Dhaka factories down to Chittagong for export through its port there. Those cargo trains could easily be fitted in during the day as there would be more than enough spare capacity on the line that could easily run 200 trains between 6am...
