Indian scientists claim discovery of galaxy ‘Saraswati’ in universe

Discovering a new supercluster is cool. However, I doubt these guys really claim much by way of looking back into the past. 400 light years is not that much, considering the Planck instrument has already given us an image of cosmic microwave background radiation 500 million years after Big Bang...

    Delhi society bans 'Bangladeshi' maids

The population issue cannot be tackled unless the underlying religious and social beliefs are not addressed. If that is not done, then forced sterilization will be the only option remaining, and that is violative of basic human rights.

    Delhi society bans 'Bangladeshi' maids

I have a friend who lives in that housing complex. She says that a crowd of hundreds descended upon the place and the security had a really tough time preventing them from actually killing people. They seemed to have blood on their mind. I am actually concerned for the fate of these...

Sikkim standoff: Let Bhutan handle border row, CPI-M tells Modi government

While it is true that Communism as an ideology has caused the world a lot of harm, it does provide an interesting and relevant critique of power and economics. It is useful to have them around just to have the necessary balance between centre and fringe. Socialism, capitalism and nationalism...

Deposited demonetised notes still being counted: RBI Governor

I think that there is a global discourse developing in (let's call them aspiring countries) that is based in a form of ends-justifies-the-means reasoning. I am sure they see it as some sort of pragmatism. Basically in this discourse, Russia and China are the poster children. So media blackouts...

Deposited demonetised notes still being counted: RBI Governor

Yeah I guess it is about when a particular group wakes up to what is happening. Some groups were able to realize the changing paradigm before others. Terror groups, alt-Right in US and BJP media cell were some of the earliest to use social media effectively. The rest are now catching up.

Remembering Srebrenica Genocide I The life, Dutch celebration, and death.

I don't understand what the fuss is all about really. The Dutch government resigned over the failure. What more can be expected of them? How many governments in the developing world would do that? Why is it that Europe and the West in general have to be held accountable to a much higher moral...

Deposited demonetised notes still being counted: RBI Governor

Jokes apart it is really disheartening to see how social media and WhatsApp have been employed globally. Many of us thought that it would usher in a new era of transparency and accountability as people would get to share reality without propaganda. Whoever thought that was proven wrong. It has...

Deposited demonetised notes still being counted: RBI Governor

The problem is that the government in India has traditionally managed to get away with a lot based on the excuse that these are policy decisions. The Supreme Court therefore does not meddle too much because it is a clearly established principle that government is free to make policy...

Deposited demonetised notes still being counted: RBI Governor

Yeah the updates stopped coming even before the deadline, if I remember correctly. I don't know whether there is any implications if notes are still coming in, because the RBI was financially liable only to the extent of notes received before the deadline. Had that amount of notes returned been...

    Why Khalistan movement almost failed?

Agree with the central premise of your thread. Hindus make up 40% of the population and a Sikh supremacist movement wouldn't go down well with them. Couldn't really understand the rest of what you wrote, its not really clear. Assuming whatever complex alignment you propose is achieved, how will...

    Trump's biggest fans? Canadian universities

They have nothing to fear in the US. Social Justice Warriors have created a "safe space" for them in American Universities wherein they are protected from "micro-aggression" via an Orwellian system of "trigger-warnings". I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as most of these overseas...

    Unity.

You have been deluding yourself if you claim that the "rise" of Hindutva has been the uniting factor. Fact is, nothing apart from hatred for India has United Pakistan since independence. We got in 2014 a government that you are claiming to be Hindutva. There was no Hindutva government in 2008...

His marriages failed for the same reason everything in his life will inevitably fail. I have been reading his posts for some time and I am serious when I say you cannot make up such vileness in the lab. He actually had the audacity sometime back of making pitiful noises about the fact that...

An average Pakistani consumes 130 Kilos of wheat per year.

Physical conditioning is a function of diet only when a sedentary lifestyle is involved. People who have an active lifestyle have a totally different physiology. Years of physical exertion on a daily basis will strengthen bones, joints and muscles regardless of diet, although a good diet would...

An average Pakistani consumes 130 Kilos of wheat per year.

Yeah that's the big reason Indians are big on yoghurt and paneer. I drink my share of milk but my wife can't. She has almond or soya milk.

And whatever milk we drink beyond childhood is mostly overkill. Only 18% of Indians are lactose tolerant.

Consistency is the key. If one were to either play Victor or vanquished with even some consistency, you can atleast expect respect or sympathy. In one sentence he is Achilles who has slayed Hector, and in the next he is Edmond Dantes who has been subject to monumental treachery. If only he could...

    Unity.

He is confused. This confusion is the hallmark of a society that cannot decide what it wants to be. His is a concoction of wishful thinking, cultural appropriation mixed with dubious racial chauvinism. One moment is a libertarian wishing that there could be a gay pride parade in Pakistan, next...
