US, Taiwan, Japan gallop ahead in advanced semiconductors while China remains stuck at mature-node chips

MIC 2025 is steadily on track. Remember, the goal was to provide 30% of chips needed for China's own consumption. China will hit that target probably by early next year. Majority of the market is still using 45nm to 28nm nodes, so pricing competitors out of those market should a a top priority...

Dell looks to phase out 'made in China' chips by 2024

Well China could also phase out Dell. Scumbag company with overpriced PCs that was still using proprietary parts until a few years ago.

WHY PEOPLE ARE HOMELESS IN CHINA

There was a time when homelessness was less visible in major Chinese cities, but that involved forced custody and many suffered abuses at the hands of staff. It's too bad. I think it's actually not a bad concept but the execution went horribly wrong. It could have been a mandatory shelter for...

    J-XY - maybe J-35 - next generation carrier-borne fighter

On the contrary, I think there is a high likelihood that stealth fighters will end up in dogfight with each other due to reduce detection range.

SCMP: Is China doubling down on assimilation of its ethnic minorities?

They're spoken by locals mostly, such as in Shanghai and Wuhan. Newcomers generally communicate in Mandarin. Having a national language is not a bad thing. It paved the way to a unified Chinese nation in Qin dynasty. Ethnic Kinh in China makes up a negligible portion of the total population...

SCMP: Is China doubling down on assimilation of its ethnic minorities?

Almost every region outside of north China has their own dialect. "Old" Chinese is a fluid process, not a set piece. Each period had their own change in pronunciation. Some of them even sound sort of Vietnamese.

SCMP: Is China doubling down on assimilation of its ethnic minorities?

Yes, assimilation and melting pot should be the norm. China should remove all benefits specifically directed at ethnic minorities and re-designate every autonomous regions into provinces. No, Cantonese is mostly limited to Guangdong only. The south is a lot bigger than just Guangdong "Strict"...

Serbia shows off Chinese military gear in stark warning to Anglo Saxon hegemony

China is not going to war half way around the world for Serbia. Go home kids.

    J-XY - maybe J-35 - next generation carrier-borne fighter

The rear visibility looks horrible. I hope they at least put some camera in the back for pilots' HMD to have some situational awareness in case of a dog fight.

President Xi finally admits the mistakes of China's disastrous Zero Covid policy

    1. Dense population centers living in tightly packed condos, even "small" towns in China have bigger population than most large cities in US. 2. No restrictions on the sick at all. During zero COVID the infected were taken to quarantine facilities, but overnight they just lifted all measures. I...

'Three Gorges on the Great Wall': China starts work on $12bn desert energy mega-project

While diverting water, I think China should also reduce water wastage in manufacturing, agriculture and residential sectors.

Chinese Loongson chips coming in 2023, on par with 2020 x86 kit

That's a ridiculous statement. China still has a demand for operation systems even if Americans close off access to Windows and Android. It's not like everybody will collectively shut down their electronics in China and go back to pencil and paper. That means domestic ones will pop up to take...

President Xi finally admits the mistakes of China's disastrous Zero Covid policy

3 major mistakes: 1. Failure to pick the correct COVID policy; went for zero COVID instead of mass vaccination booster 2. Failure to adjust COVID policy for over a year 3. Failure to gradually re-open; no public gather restriction, mask mandate, additional round of vaccination or stockpiling...

NASA chief says China could claim the moon as its own territory if it beats the US to the lunar surface

When the head of an agency that's supposed to advance science engages in fear mongering, you know that American society has a terminal case of McCarthyism. So why is he whining like a whipped hoe over an area he has such a strong advantage in?

Boy's severed arm saved by efforts of many in Xinjiang

I do not believe having ethnic autonomous areas is the correct path. It's a failed system borrowed directly from the USSR. Administrative units should be standardized as national -> province -> city -> district/county. Any ethnic autonomous regions should not be larger than county size.

    PLA Army News & Discussions

This thing is impractical as hell. No way that tiny size could withstand the recoil of 20mm cannon mounted on its back. Where the hell is it going to store ammo?

1 year on, EU alternative to China’s belt and road fails to deliver

Of course, China is there to talk trade and business. Americans and Europeans go to third world countries to talk China. Not many in the West pay attention to these poverty stricken nations until China starts signing deals.
