Featured Pakistan Navy Type 054AP Frigates - Update, News & Discussion

Some of the items for the Milgem have already been ordered (Power-plant 8xMTU Diesels and 4xLM 2500 Gas Turbines, 4x Oto Melara Super Rapid 76mm Main Gun etc.) ... SIPRI lists these items. Unless now being used in Type 54A this purchase seems to point towards a done deal on Milgem. My 2C worth

PN Marines vying for Military Assault Boats (MAB)

With all due respects all shipyards the world over bring out their designs be it Bulk Carriers, Container Vessels or Super Tankers!! Design work is an integral part of a shipyard! The Polish company is not a design concern but a design and manufacturing concern. Research and design are two...

PN Marines vying for Military Assault Boats (MAB)

I always wonder that we have a shipyard that churns out cargo vessels and other stuff but we cant even design and manufacture quality riverine craft inshore patrol boats of quality and substance. Look at the size of the facility of the Polish Manufacturer and look at the size of KSEW and the...

    Indignesous SPARROW needed

Yes it can be done but it would be at extreme ranges without margin for error. Couple of mines surfacing near a major port will create a scare no doubt.

Featured Pakistan Navy Type 054AP Frigates - Update, News & Discussion

F22p has been somewhat of a disappointment for PN. The four more F22p turned out to be four Type 54A's. I don't think we will be getting any more surface combatants out of China other than what has already been procured or ordered. However, the Turkish option is there and most probably PN will...

Featured Pakistan Navy Type 054AP Frigates - Update, News & Discussion

A note here. Average construction run of Type 54A's was 3/year! So we might be looking at getting all of them by 2020!! Furthermore, upgrade to type 54A+ is a real possibility after some experience with the platform and upon refit. Would need to embark navalized version of Z-20 for true over...

    Indignesous SPARROW needed

Yes that is a possibility to tie down enemy naval assets and disrupt port operations by use of midget subs. But due to limited range of these subs...targets will be limited to few Western ports. However IN in previous conflicts moved it major assets out of its western ports to its eastern...

    Indignesous SPARROW needed

IMHO and with little bit of study of Naval Power, Pak Navy's role is defensive and keeping its SLOC open during a conflict with India. Its strike element is its submarine force and Aviation Arm and not its surface fleet! Adding a AAW frigate with strong AShM is at the most extending the Air...

The Spy Chronicles - Book Review by Dr Naeem Mushtaq

Sir engagement is and never should be an issue. And I am certainly not eluding to this in my post. However, being the head of an intelligence agency....care should have been taken when discussing the role of ISI and GoP in the relationship viz a viz our erstwhile neighbor. I wonder copies of...

The Spy Chronicles - Book Review by Dr Naeem Mushtaq

I have met the gentleman in question. Intellectual level, no doubt high and he is articulate and his demeanor is unlike that of a typical general. But being a spy master he should have been careful. What he said or did not say, his engagement with the Indians in the end became an embarrassment...

The Spy Chronicles - Book Review by Dr Naeem Mushtaq

Yes true. ISI, since his retirement, kept him at an arms length while he strived for attention levels that Gen Hameed Gul got in the media.

The Spy Chronicles - Book Review by Dr Naeem Mushtaq

The eventual classic coup goes to RAW!!! A spy even a retired one will remain a spy for the rest of his life. Gen Durrani forgot the oldest adage of intelligence agencies here. Got carried away in Track 2 diplomacy. Gen Durrani got sucked in ---- classic sucker!!! He was overzealous to go pro...

Seaking is a much much better platform with AshM capability, ASW capability with a dunking sonar and automated grid search capability and a powerful surface search radar.

Lt Gen (r) Asad Durrani summoned by GHQ : ISPR

This guy after retirement has been clamoring for attention. One of my acquaintances who was in ISI overseeing the Media Monitoring Cell was approached constantly by Asad Durrani to get him into the media for interviews. This was told to me about five years back and the event took place somewhere...

    Pakistan Naval Aviation - Updated

J 20 is in no way the definitive version of the technology or the platform. China wanted to show that they can and will be up there with the best of the best in terms of stealth technology. So it inducted technology "demonstrator" in operational echelons. IMHO work must be on for a more...

Pakistan to raise 12,000 Marines in a new branch of Navy

My response is to those members that feel that we should launch amphibious ops of offensive nature--IMHO it is not possible given the size and resources of PN Equipping the Marine force to repel a seaborne invasion should and must be done with organic helo support, and shore based AShM and...

    Pakistan Navy P-3C Orion Thread

The optimum number that both PN and USN Consultant team on the ground recommended at the time Orion program was in full swing was a fleet of 12 ships. We are six ship short from the optimum number. That is why, most probably, we are seeing gap fillers being procured in the shape of ATR a/c.

Pakistan to raise 12,000 Marines in a new branch of Navy

Agreed and that is what I eluded to in my post. IMHO even if we have a clear objective, seaborne operation is just not feasible for a force of the size of PN. Commando type hit and run raids are a different preposition. Those are feasible and that is why min-subs are in the arsenal of PN.
