Ban cheese imports? Pakistan discusses outside-the-box ideas to avoid IMF bailout

Pakistan’s exports to Thailand one-tenth of imports KARACHI: Thailand, having a population of 68 million which was one-third the size of Pakistan’s, exports 10 times more compared to what it imports from Pakistan – one of many examples that have prompted some quarters to seek the...

Ban cheese imports? Pakistan discusses outside-the-box ideas to avoid IMF bailout

It all depends which countries you are importing this from? If they are also among your main export markets, i.e. Europe, North America, then the possibility of trade retaliation can make Pakistan’s position even worse. This idea works only with countries where there is a massive trade imbalance...

    Water preservation solution for Pakistan.

Is that uncommon in Pakistan? It’s very commonly used in India and has probably been around for at least 20 years.

    Water preservation solution for Pakistan.

Is Pakistan already a bankrupt state?

In my opinion, passage of time will make it less likely, not more. Every year will bring more water stress not less and with it more hardening of positions. It’s a criminal waste that Pakistan allows so much of its water to drain into the sea. All the fighting over Indian dams looks pointless...

Is Pakistan already a bankrupt state?

Straight question, what would you have liked to see as priority (ignoring political issues)

Is Pakistan already a bankrupt state?

Everything has benefits, the question is how much and if money is limited, where do you use it. In theory, both Daimler Basha and Kalabagh Dam should be built but with finance limitations, a heathy discussion on where the money should be spent is warranted. There are many experts who suggest...

Is Pakistan already a bankrupt state?

Yes, that’s the theory. However since Tarbela is also a primarily for electricity generation, it’s not Going to substantially alter irrigation. Will increase life of Tarbela but if you want massive irrigation, there’s no alternative to Kalabagh.

I made no point on the thread topic itself, just a thought about so much focus on a dam which will do very little irrigationand almost no focus on that by Pakistanis here.

Is Pakistan already a bankrupt state?

India can build how many ever dams it wants on the Chenab, Indus and Jhelum, it a common misconception among Pakistanis that India is flouting the IWT. Pakistan has never won a case against India on that score and the main objects raised are about design, usually about drawdown flushing...

Is Pakistan already a bankrupt state?

Here’s another point that very few Pakistanis are debating...is Daimler Basha the dam that needs building? IK spent a lot of time in his address talking about water shortage etc but the really important dam to build for that would have been the Kalabagh Dam. Daimler Basha is upstream of tarbela...

Pakistan’s Military Has Quietly Reached Out to India for Talks

He had to negotiate it with the Indian army, that would have taken some commitments and the decision to agree to the cease fire would have taken place at very high levels of the Indian government. As for whether your PM gave orders to a subedar, not very likely since there were zero chances of...

Pakistan’s Military Has Quietly Reached Out to India for Talks

I’ll ignore the alternate fiction on who calls the shots ( the information minister told Indian tv “we will do what the army wants” before adding “or vice versa”). As for it being a good thing regardless of who is responsible, can’t argue with that. The rest of my post suggesting steps already...
