Vladimir Koujin revealed that based on the needs and requirements of Cairo, Russia has offered Egypt to equip the Mistral with modern missiles for air defense, anti-ship missiles, a wide range of equipment, electronic warfare systems, navigation systems and helicopters. Was based on the requirements of the Egyptian side and is conducting technical and financial discussions with the Egyptian side in this regard now.

Russia and Egypt are currently negotiating to outfit two new Mistral-class warships Cairo received this year with modern equipment and electronic warfare systems, Russian news agency TASS said on Thursday.
"The Russian Federation has offered Egypt a wide range of equipment and military hardware to mount on the Mistral helicopter carriers," presidential aide for military and technical cooperation Vladimir Kozhin told TASS.

"Apart from helicopters, these are modern armament and electronic warfare systems, navigational and auxiliary equipment and communications means," Kozhin said.

Moscow says its experts have presented recommendations to Cairo, including necessary preparations to install the armaments.

"The negotiations on approving technical and commercial components are continuing," the Russian official added.

In June and September, Egypt received two French Mistral-class helicopter carriers from France, part of a $1 billion deal signed last year.

The two ships were originally built for sale to Russia, but the sale was cancelled over the Ukraine crisis.

Russia has offered the 5P28 Pobeditel electronic warfare systems and the Kamov helicopters developed for the Mistral warship which France likely to sell to Egypt, Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec Corporation has said.

“If Egypt decides to acquire the Mistral helicopter warships, then of course we will offer them the helicopters that we developed just for this ship,” Chemezov said in a statement to TASS.

It was previously reported that France and Egypt have agreed on the terms to purchase the two Mistral ships built for the Russian Navy. Rostec holding companies, Concern Radio-Electronic Technologies (KRET), and United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (UIMC) have expressed their readiness to cooperate with the new buyers of French Mistral helicopter carriers.

KRET has offered to equip the Mistral ships with 5P28 Pobeditel electronic defense systems, which are installed on large ships such as aircraft carriers, helicopter carriers, and cruisers, greatly increasing the survivability of the ship.

United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation, another Rostec holding, which has developed communication and control systems for the Mistral, has agreed to adapt the Russian systems for Egypt.

According to UIMC representatives, the Russian equipment cannot be sold as is to the new ships, as it will be necessary to remove various blocks and software components from the communications and control systems.

looks like the russains want to of load the kit that would have been on the ship had it been delivered.
it certainly beats manpads tied down to the ship

This was a temporary solution for some exercises.. The Mistrals are not equipped yet.. just wait and see..

Russians were working on Naval Pantsir , can be mounted on A/C or Heli Carriers .

That is for short range.. there is also an S-300 naval version for medium and long range..

yeah i know , but just saying that Russians have other options besides the one shown in picture ..

When you see this, you see Egyptian army capabilities....like the grosse Berta with no traction..at least the gross Berta could hurl a projectile 200 kms away..?

200 KM AWAY?
Which Bertha would that be? :O

German howitzer on railroad track made by Krupp , used to shell Paris, hurled 700 kg shells 12 kms away..left handed joke to the Egyptian about their neutered Mistrals...

Lolz, well that is what got me. Its range was 12Km and i didn't realize you said 200Km as sarcasm. :)

Yep, and it makes good sense to go with what they intended to put on them. The Humvee-mounted Avenger system was not only an terrific temporary solution, it's a excellent system to begin with. And the fact that all that was required was rolling the vehicles onto the ship and tying down one at bow and one at stern was brilliant. Now at least the 2 ships have adequate temporary defense against incoming threats instead of nothing.

The new system will be the complete package, from the missiles and guns to jamming & ECM and coms and the naval attack helicopters. This coms system is also specific to the Katran which makes the whole thing even better. Once the 2 ships are completely equipped, they will be very powerful offensive platforms just by themselves.

What do you mean neutered. They were intended and are similar to those of the French: only lightly armed. Just, the russian stuff didn't get fitted.

Lashing Avenger onto the deck is a good interim measure. They were intended to get 2x AK630 and 2x Gibka (with 4 Igla Manpads each). So, 2 Avenger with 2x4 Stinger and a HMG each is not so bad. Besides, with a little tinkering, it could well communicate with the ship's command system via datalink.

Be serious!
you just confirm what I wrote above, that they were just two big tubs with no means to defend themselves or protect other accompaning crafts..

I am perfectly serious! Do not over state the initially intended self defence armament. Clearly, the French can't deliver Russian weapons (Ak630s, Gibka's). However, that does not have to preclude Egypt from buying similar French arms (e.g. Sandral or Simbad RC and 20mm cannon) or stick on e.g. 2 Phalanx and 2 11-round RAM via FMS funding (of which Egypt gets a lot). BUT THEY (THE EGYPTIANS) DIDN'T.

So, they make do with what they got, and it is NOT a bad solution esp. if they can use the Avenger associated Forward Area Air Defense Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence (FAAD C3I) system, which permits external radar tracks and messages to be passed to the fire unit to alert and cue the gunner, to connect with the ships' command system.

FAAD C3I effectively utilizes joint and combined information by processing the air

• TADIL-A: A secure, half-duplex, netted digital data link normally operated in a roll-call mode under control of a net control station to exchange information between land-based, airborne, and shipboard tactical data systems. NATO’s equivalent is Link 11.
• TADIL-B: A secure, full-duplex, point-to-point digital data link used to connect Patriot brigades and SHORAD units to the CRC and other points. NATO’s equivalent is Link 4.
• TADIL-J: A secure, high capacity, jam-resistant, nodeless data link which uses the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) transmission characteristics and the protocols, conventions, and fixed-length message formats defined by JTIDS. It is a timeshared net used by airborne, shipboard, and land-based tactical combat operations. NATO’s equivalent is Link 16.
Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) is a jam resistant, secure data and voice communications system used for command, control, and identification. JTIDS provides FAAD C2I with a TADIL-J (link 16) capability to participate on the JDN.

Mistral-class ships can be used as command and control ships, with a 850-square-metre (9,100 sq ft) command centre which can host up to 150 personnel. Information from the ship's sensors is centralised in the SENIT system (Système d'Exploitation Navale des Informations Tactiques, "System for Naval Usage of Tactical Information"), a derivative of the US Navy's Naval Tactical Data System (NTDS). Problems in the development of the SENIT 9 revision contributed to the one-year delay in the delivery of the two ships. SENIT 9 is based around Thales' tri-dimensional MRR3D-NG Multi Role Radar, which operates on the C band and incorporates IFF capabilities. SENIT 9 can also be connected to NATO data exchange formats through Link 11, Link 16 and Link 22.
