The head of Iran’s military met his Turkish counterpart Gen. Hulusi Akar on Tuesday in a rare meeting between two such senior military figures, a military official said.

Maj. Gen. Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, chairman of the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff, was invited to a private meeting at the General Staff headquarters in Ankara, the official said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.
According to Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency, Bagheri was invited to Turkey for a three-day visit by Akar.
In an article published before the meeting, it said they were due to discuss issues such as counter-terrorism, regional developments, defense ties and border security.

The official gave no confirmation of the subject of their discussions.

The neighbors, who share a 534-kilometer (332-mile) border, share interests in a number of areas.
Earlier this month, Turkey said it had begun building a security wall along its mountainous eastern border with Iran. Tehran welcomed the development.

The border is thought to be a route for people-smugglers bringing mostly Iranian and Afghan refugees into Turkey, as well as providing terrorists with the opportunity to carry out raids before slipping back across the frontier.
The PKK has waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years, leading to more than 40,000 deaths while in Iran, the PKK-affiliated PJAK group sporadically carries out hit-and-run attacks.

Turkey and Iran, along with Russia, are the brokers for the Astana peace talks on Syria. At the latest round of talks in May, the three countries announced plans to establish “de-escalation zones” throughout the war-ravaged state.

As neighbors of Iraq, both Ankara and Tehran share an interest in the Kurdish Regional Government’s plan to hold an independence referendum next month.

I smell problems with Kurdistan in the next few months.

Bagheri looks like a maths professor.

Anyways, any American+Saoodi adventure in region will be dealt with. After failure of wahhabi terrorism, they have decided to invest in Kurdish insurgencies.

This is hypocrisy meeting with the likes of erDOGan who is one on the people who are responsible for the destruction in SyriaSyria

Erdo has caused lots of mischief both inside and outside of turkey but this was i think primary a meeting between tsk and IRGC,iranian army

"We have the same opinion with the Turkish miltary authorities about the negative effects of the presence of the super powers in the region"

Totally agree, the Super powers don't live in the region, they will try to manipulate it for their benefit and don't care about the damages that it causes because their homes are not there.

iran and turkey need to look at history.

we fought (relatively) indecisively for centuries. And the only side that benefited were Russia and Europeans. Who systematically took over ottoman/Iranian territory and influence.

History cannot repeat itself. better to talk over your disagreements, and look for common ground. then going for an all out fight against an equally strengthed enemy whom you cannot decisively defeat, and only invite outside powers to take advantage of your fighting.

if the americans and Saudi's want to invest in Kurdish mercenary terrorists to destabilize historic countries of the region. Then it makes total sense for those countries to work together to oppose it.

The US is a 300 year old~ far away declining imperialist state. They have absolutely 0 business sticking their noses into this particular region. the faster they realize this the better.

Good excuse
I am sure Kurds and Arabs have better excuse for keeping Americans in their lands.
What excuse are you talking about,we are in NATO since 1952(65 years)and thanks to NATO we got western standard military equipment.
Every NATO country has NATO military bases or bases used by other NATO members, even the US which is normal in a military Alliance.
Kurds and Arabs have direct US military support,no NATO involved.
