Wary of China, India offers Akash surface-to-air missile systems to Vietnam

25km for a missile that size seems very limited. That's the range of the AIM-120B on the NASAMS HML, which is far smaller.

Using AIM-120C the range is pushed out to 30-40km and AMRAAM-ER, an ESSM-AMRAAM hybrid pushed the range out even further, to about 50-60km. AIM-9X Block II can also be used, but has a range of roughly 15km max.

I dunno:unsure:. Akash's range seems very limited for a missile that size

It's ramjet. Fully powered throughout its flight envelope. Plus has a massive 55Kg warhead.

Anyway, Akash is called a SRSAM, the ones you have linked are called QRSAMs in our vocabulary. We use the Israeli SPYDER.

More like India offers Shurlees to Vietnam for Diwali. These missiles look like ICBMs in terms of size. highly doubt they ll have the manoeuvrability to take out a Super Tucano let alone a fighter jet.

India is just trying to sell and make money. This has zero strategic value VS China.

Akash's range seems very limited for a missile that size in this day and age. That was normal in the 70s when Kub first came on-line, but missiles have gotten smaller and their ranges extended since then without sacrificing lethality.
true
its derived from older gen SAMs, the reason for such bulky yet short legged missiles

China is perceived as the enemy as they are East Asians that physically appears the same as lower caste NEastern Indians. So any mentioning of anything Chinese can be regarded as lower caste people can be successful if they become are given the same opportunity from Indian view point. Which is against the law of nature from the Brahman perspective. According to these guys, the low caste should have no opportunity. It's sad that India treat diplomacy via caste system.

Wow...you have so much knowledge about Indian people and what they think than Indian itself.

Just a question will few Small range SAMS makes a difference??
Helps Vietnam to replace its Soviet Era 30-40 km SAMs easily . [Akash has advantage of being very cheap comparaed to its competitor ]

Don't fall for the spicy headline. That's a useless clickbait.

why in gods name would they buy that? heck the indian army were forced to buy it as the spyder was far more capable. im thinking its incredibly cheap

At 0.35 Million USD per missile its extremely cheap compared to western Missiles.

And No , Indian Army isn't buying anything to replace Akash . They are buying Short Range SAM [15 Km Range ] and Quick Reaction SAM.

SPYDER currently in use is Medium Range SAM with Effective Range of over 60km.

why buy indian junk when viets can just buy the SAM's from their original source ? russia/ israel ?

indians may have mastered the art of retard, the viets have not

"Indian Junk " is as effective as any other SAM in its category and is extremely cheap.

It's the mid tier of a 3 tier system. Check the video below- a single SAM group can give coverage to 200 Sq KM, which is a great coverage.

BS. Akash is one of the most successful systems India has developed nailing multi-billion USD deals from army and AF like clockwork, every fe. It has never attracted any controversy and has always found support from IA/ IAF. It also has excellent furture development roadmap

Great well tested choice by Vietnamese

Junk is junk, that's why India export nothing significant in arms

Serious note, Indians please stop self jerking, if viet want buy air defense, they will buy Russia s300 or buk system, not something garbage

The great thing about Akash was unrelenting focus on performance. Hell we've tested them in the harshest terrains for decades and they've worked well all this while (with new MK 2 also under development). Our vietnamese friends are getting a high endurance product. Hell in that terrain this will be a dream to operate.

Its upon the Viets to take the decision. We are doing our part by offering what we have got.

Why are you so irritated at it lol ?
