AIR RAID sirens sounded across Cyprus 5.30am Wednesday to mark the moment in 1974 when an armada of 33 ships, including troop transporters, tanks and landing craft, alighted on the northern coast, near Kyrenia beginning the Turkish invasion and occupation of more than a third of the island for the past 42 years.

Turkish forces advanced and took control of nearly 40 per cent of the island making some 160,000 Greek Cypriots homeless in their own country. More than a quarter of the population was expelled from the area where Greek Cypriots once constituted 80 per cent of the population.

The invasion anniversary will be marked across the island with church services and other memorial events.
Despite the ‘black anniversary’ President Nicos Anastasiades said on Tuesday he would be meeting Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci as planned on Friday. “I do not see any reason to cancel the talks that would normally take place,” he said.

The Turkish invasion/liberation seems justified after reading this:
________________________

The 1974 Cypriot coup d'état was a military coup d'état by the Cypriot National Guard and the Greek military junta of 1967–1974. On 15 July 1974 the coup plotters ousted President Makarios III and replaced him with pro-Enosisnationalist Nikos Sampson as dictator,[1][2][3] which led to the formation of a regime described as a puppet regime. The aim of the coup was the annexation of the island by Greece[4][5][6] and the coupists proclaimed the establishment of the "Hellenic Republic of Cyprus".[7][8]

Well maybe Turks in Cyprus shouldn't have been treated poorly. It's good Turkey taught Greek Cypriots a lesson.
Maybe they should have gone back home if they wanted somebody to pander to their powdered a$$es

Well they didn't, instead they conquered and won.

When the safety of Turkish Cypriots was ensured, the Greeks were taught a nice lesson, and US pressure.

Nothing we could've take the whole island but we only took Turkish part.

By back stabbing a country that had hosted them them for centuries like a common parasite.

The same country that mistreated them, please remember that.

we dont took.. we liberated it from those disturbed minds that wanted to make ethnic cleansing..

Turkey just used its right to interfere when Greece toppled the goverment of Cyprus and replaced it with Greece friendly military junta which massacred Turks on the island.
