Thought we get a break from politics for a while and enjoy some old Afghan songs which have deep influence from Iran, Pakistan, India and Central Asia.

@pakistani342 . Probably you have heard some of them ;)

Azeezam !!! Azeezam !!!, you made my morning -- it brought back childhood memories of Ahmad Zahir playing on worn out cassettes (these are things we used to record and play music on, before the things that came before the things that came before mp3s ;-)

Actually I think I've only seen/heard one of these songs -- the second Ahmad Zahir song.

I hadn't heard Ahmad Zahir's Jogi.

Here is Jogi from Hameed Sakhizada -- a contestant on the first season of Afghan Star.

Here are two of my favorite Ahamd Zahir's songs:

Choon Darakht-e Farwarden

Baz amadi ay jane man janha fedaye jan tu
Jane man o sad hamcho man qorbane tu, qorbane tu

Man kaz sare azadagi az charkh sar pechida-am
Daram konon dar bandagi sar bar khate farmane tu

Magzar az paa ofotam ay dost dastam ra begir
Roye man o dargahe tu, daste man o daman tu

Gofti ke janane ke am? janane man, janane man
Gofti ke hairane keye? hairane tu, hairane tu

Imshab agar morghe sahar khanad soroud, mekhanamash
Chon barha bar-bast lab o dar shabe hijrane tu

Sadly Afghan music is better than Pakistani music -- that is why we should absorb all Afghan music as Pakistani music just like we have made Ghauri, Ghazanvi Pakistani -- surely absorbing Afghan music is much easier.

I like aryana sayeed:D

Oh she is so trashy -- the Afghans can keep Aryana Sayeed and Mozhdah

@A-Team , do you have English lyrics for these songs? If yes please post them. The woman in the first song has great voice.

Here is one of my favorite renditions of an urdu Ghazal by Ostad Nashenas

Here is Ostaad Sarahang singing Amir Khusro's Yaar-e-man Beya Beya -- and in Darbari!

wah wah wah

Ba labam raseeda janom

I will see if I can find it.

But basically she is saying, don't worry, don't despair, you are my soulemate, you are my love :) some thing along those lines.

BTW my uncle used to be her English teacher back when I was barely walk :)

Music would be one our greatest exports to the world . There are few countries in the world that has produced as many muscial legends as Pakistan have .

That being said Afghan Music while good is relatively unknown . It would be good if their stars get worldwide exposure as Indian And Pakistani Musicians do . There were many pashtun singers that I thought were Pakistani turned out to be from Afghanistan

Both these two are legends no doubt.

Amaaaazing voices Amazing -- Ostad Nashenas is self taught -- he taught himself to play music be reading a book (wtf?!?)

I like aryana sayeed:D

I don't usually listen to her, she is too flashy for my taste. :P

BTW my all time favorite Pakistani singer was Nazia Hassan, what a pity she left us so early :(

Please do. Her voice is reminding me of something but can't seem to put a finger on it. In all honesty I have never even thought of Afghan pop songs, folk songs yes but never pop songs. You learn something new everyday.:tup::tup:

Nazia hassan was a trailblazer . True pop icon . her music even charted in Russia , Brazil , West Indies . While Pakistan 's Music scene has always been outstanding I preferred the 90's when our music was simply out of the world . Bands like Strings , Junoon , Fuzion , Vital signs Along with new sensations like hadiqa kiyani . Early 2000's was also a great period with the emergence of Jal , Atif aslam and Ali zafar .

I personally feel none compares to Nusrat fateh ali Khan . His voice was out of the world

I was surprised to see aryana sayeed wearing flashy clothes i thought those kind of clothes are a no-go area for afghan women .
