OH! Well! Wel…come both Godman and Chinazun.

Green Arrow answered you already, Chinazun. On PDF as on many other fora,
first you post and eventually you create threads ( or get other permissions ).
If I'm not mistaken, this practice dates back to the beginning of the public Net and
WWW. It was found to be necessary to allow way too relaxed crews ( members &
management ) to spot and appraise noobs and define their purposes and intentions.

I've always found it curtailed reactivity, which those that served, even generals, would
agree is a great tactical tool, and was thus quite anti-military in nature.

Without it however, you would have opened a thread already and would presently be
dodging incomings from air, sea and land in a glorious ambush of the type where . . .
. . . everyone ends up shooting everybody.

So maybe it's for the best, you'd be surprised how many bored border guards and trolls
long for fresh targets/meat mindlessly.
