Jiangsu Hangke Composite Materials Technology’s (JSHK) T1000 carbon fibre has been tested successfully, following the company’s consistent research and development activities.
The product performance indexes including stability appear to be equal to that of the Japanese Toray’s similar products, the company claims.
This is another milestone for the company, after it built the first Chinese domestic production line in 2012, which led to mass production of T800 carbon fibre.
Pilot product
JSHK T1000 carbon fibre pilot production line is in the scale of 50 tons/year. The pilot product has been tested by the third party testing centres, including Beihang University (BUAA) high performance carbon fibre testing and analysis centre, and Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) Institute of carbon fibre and composites.
According to the company, the results show that the tensile strength, tensile modulus, and elongation linear density, the three main performance indexes of JSHK T1000 carbon fibre experimental products, as well as thermal conductivity and other parameters, are equal to that of Toray T1000 products.
Prior to this, the stability of the product has been the problem area in the Chinese domestic carbon fibre industry for many years, as well as causing trouble for enterprise development. The recent results, however, show that the stability of JSHK T1000 products is at a good level, with the products’ variation coefficient (CV value) said to be at the same level of Toray.
Production and market demand
The precursor used for the carbon fibre production has also been produced by JSHK independently. The T1000 and the T800 are different products made on the same production line, obtained through technology upgrading, yet with the same modulus.
The difference between these products is that the T1000 is stronger, so it can be used in special industry applications, compared to T800, which cannot meet the special needs of such industry sectors.
Despite the fact that JSHK T800 production technology has matured, there is still a high demand for T800 products. The production of T1000, therefore, is expected to evolve when there is an adequate response from the market, JSHK reports.
Carbon fibre development
Reportedly, the company has applied for 85 patents regarding the carbon fibre development, 24 of which have been authorised so far.
In addition, JSHK has developed 20 equipment manufacturing standards, 40 production process standards, 68 tracking test specifications, one T700 enterprise standard and one T800 enterprise standard.
All those works are said to have laid a good technical R&D and industrialisation base for carbon fibre production. It has also accumulated valuable experience for carbon fibre development in China.
