Main Battle Tank Project

In the late 90s Turkey issued a Tender for 1,000 license built main battle tanks, with a Turkish industrial input of 50-60%. The main contenders for the project were;

France Roketsan-Giat: Lecleric
Germany Otokar-Krauss Maffei: Leopard-2A6TR
USA BMC-General Dynamics: M1 A2 SEP
Ukraine Asmaş-Progress: T-84

Italy also participated in the tender with their Ariete tank, however they failed to make it past first round of negotiations.

6 months of trials were conducted, starting February and ending in July

Project Status: Due to Economic Turmoil, Project was cancelled.
Project Successor: National MBT, MİTÜP-Altay.

Thank god the cooperation didnt happen, now we have a National Tank wich is much better, next step is the engines, hope to see success.

The goverment should focus and boost up the engine projects more, its a strategic investment wich may also boost the domestic car industry.

TFX and TF-2000 are long term projects we shouldnt expect something anytime soon, about TFX im more pessimistic for obvious reasons but im sure TF-2000 will be a success.
T-Loramids is another story full of fiasco's, hopefully the same as the Tank project above will happen and we will go for a national air defense system.

We will have to,by the time we decide on a system(T-Lorimads),it will be obsolete.
The TFX project,what good is it when we dont have a decent engine with enough power and when the fighter is not even comparable with other 5th gen fighters?
Just take a look at the available engines(if they would sell us).
By the time we start production,the rest will have 6th gen.

ATAK Helicopter Project.

On May 30th 1997, Turkey issued a request for information for a need of 145 Attack helicopters. The request encompassed Turkish industry to develop capabilities beyond what it had at the time. This involved the ability to develop, build and integrate systems, conduct depot level service and provide logistical support.

Tender participants involved;
USA - Boeing: AH-64D
USA - Bell Textron: AH-1Z King Cobra
France/Germany - Eurocopter: Tiger
Israel/Russia - Kamov/IAI: Ka 50-2 Erdoğan

The helicopters would be put through their paces, in vigorous testing.

• Helicopter Performance Tests
• Maintenance Tests
• Assembly Factory Inspection Tests

On 6th March, Israel-Russia consortium was eliminated from the tender having not met tests conducted.

On 10th of May 2000, SSM asked for final offers.

On 21st of July 2000, Textron's AH-1Z was selected and contract negotiations started.

Project Status: Project put on hault, Contract negotiations stalled. 2000 economic turmoil also compounded to the problems.
Project Successor: Project restart, Italian Agusta selected T-129.

Yeah,another fantastic project.
Started in 1997 and in 2014 we have 9 T-129s,it only took us 17 years.
