Turkish Ambassador to Japan Buelent Meric said Monday that close nuclear cooperation between Istanbul and Tokyo will help further enhance their bilateral relationship.

In April, Japan's parliament approved a bilateral nuclear cooperation agreement to enable Japanese nuclear plant exports to Turkey.

A consortium including Japanese nuclear plant builder Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. is set to receive a nuclear plant order from Istanbul.

Two-way cooperation on the nuclear energy project "bears a significant meaning" and a successful accomplishment of the project will "mean the bilateral relations will enter a new era," Meric said at a press conference in Tokyo.

Meric also said Turkey can play a role as a hub that connects Japanese businesses with Middle Eastern countries, while expressing hope for greater access to markets in Asia through Japan.

So, Japan planned nuclear transfer so long time ago ?
so fast, right after you retranslate the Constitution ..

Talks have always been there, but the limitations in our constitution delayed any real action. This is why the recent constitutional translation was necessary for Japan.

What I'm happy to hear is that now Japan and Turkey have agreed to create a science university. Thanks to @xenon54 for this wonderful update.

Japan to swap know-how for share of Turkish nuclear project- Nikkei Asian Review

Perfect ! ^^,
Japan was always one of the main constructors in big Turkish projects, we trust in ''made in Japan''.

PS: before any troll comes up with Fukushima, i wanna see a 9.0 magnitute earthquake and 10m Tsunami proof Nuclear plant. :coffee:

Has there ever been a tsunami in Turkey?

Well said, well said.
The problem is Turkey will build two plants one is Franco-Japanese cooperation and the other is Russian, Turkey is also a earthquake country and Japanese are know for relatively earthquake proof infrastructure while Russians dont have any experience in this field, sure they also have to build a earthquake proof plant as the laws require but i think choosing Russian technology for Turkey might be not so good idea, i dont know. :undecided:

Has there ever been a tsunami in Turkey?
At the construction of Marmaray (also Turco-Japanese coop) they found out that Istanbul was hit by a Tsunami in ancient times, and its reported that in 1506 earthquake a 6m tsunami hit Istanbul, but no one in recent history, the most fault lines are on land except of Marmara and Aegean Sea. A big Earthquake and a possible tsunami are forecasted for Istanbul in next 30 years.

Ancient Byzantine Ships excavated at Marmaray project, archealogists say the ships seem to be sunk imadiately in their anchorage, probably caused by a Tsunami.
